It was more of an inquisition than an interview. The four of us that were laid off were all eligible for two newly created jobs. The jobs are paying 10k less but are straight shifts and no night work or weekends.

My chief and three lieutenants ran the interview. I was told I was wearing my emotions on my sleeve, was very blunt and honest and they knew exactly how I felt. I went into the interview with nothing to lose, they are likely to hire the two with more seniority anyway. I even told them that I came here with nothing to lose.

Their questions were very confrontational and they basically wanted me to say I would be loyal for the next 20 years and not leave the job. When I told them I planned on retiring from my last job they all stiffened up.

I feel my honesty and bluntness may have cost me the job but I said my peace and they know how I feel. I even told them my anger was not directed at them it was at the situation.

I think asking them where my loyalties was unfair, when no loyalty was displayed toward me. I may have blown my chance but I can walk away with my dignity, integrity and honor in tact. Ultimately their actions will be answerable to the public of Radnor not mine.

I think it's kind of interesting how they have created new positions that pay less so soon after eliminating yours.

Unions keep that kind of thing in control.

Good for you to go in for the interview and speak your mind. I doubt I would have held my cool when the topic of loyalty came up.
