and another tomorrow. The one tomorrow I have no intent of taking, and am only going so that I can see this place callled Ocean Reef. It would involve a 35+ mile commute each way on a very dangerous road. Down here that translates to over an hour each way in traffic. I just want to see this place; it's some gated community that is about a 2000 acre island with its own stores, fire and police departments.

Supposedly some shiek has a home there, as do some celebrities. No way in hell I would fit there or want to work there, but it would be fun to see it before we leave in July.

The one I had Friday has much better potential, but they seemed so nice that I will feel guilty starting a new job with them and leaving 6 months later.

I could do this job sleeping. It's financial and insurance systems and accounting work, very similar to what I had in Ohio with another insurance company. The fact that the Keys are several years behind the rest of the country has some advantages when it comes down to employment opportunities. The drawback is the lower rate of pay. They seemed so nice and genuine, but I am having a hard time trusting potential employers (or anyone) currently.

Anyway, send some good vibes if you get a chance.

Is this the job you told me about a week or so ago?? It sounds good.....and you know, if you're only going to be out a week or 2 there might still be a way they will let you work from home til you get back on your feet, even if it's part time.

Did I miss the post on your exit interview with H or did you not have it yet???

Thanks, guys. Until a hear a salary amazingly high, there is no way the commute is worth it.

1) The road to travel there has at least one bad accident during season per day. To say it is a harrowing drive is being kind.

2) The TIME for the commute would take from my writing, and packing to move.

3) I just got over an awful experience sucking up to rich people. I don't particularly want something higher up on that level.

It's nice to make contacts. That's the main reason that I am doing this. You never know what networking potential can come out of one small thing. Plus, I just want to SEE this place.

The interview that I had the past Friday is the job that I would like to (I think) have. I knew of it through someone I met through the Black and White Ball (a benefit for the Keys Childrens Shelter) two years ago. So networking does pay off at some level. If nothing else, my friend Gayle has a retail business and has an opening for a part-time book-keeper, and she has expressed interest.

Trust me, after what I have gone through in the last year working for rich spoiled idiots, I don't want to go through it again. It totally drained me of most of the positive energy in my body. Ocean Reef would be that again from what I have heard from numerous people. While working for the rich and famous SOUNDS like a picnic, it is quite the opposite. I'm glad for the writing material. That's all.

I did not have it yet. He blew me off, and in light of the incidents that occurred on the property during last Monday's party (one of my friends was badly beaten, but that is really only the start) and last night's Full Moon Party (there were some additional issues) he is busy, but he is meeting with Larry now and wants to speak with still, apparently. So I guess I just wait until her is ready.

Everyone who thinks the Keys is so nice should live here a while. The last week and the whole job experiences are a real eye-opener.

So I guess no one nice should have the misfortune of living here.

Or if you come down here and have teenagers, don't let them come to a Full Moon Party. Who ever thought that it was a good idea to have a party on a night where the tidal pull is messing with everyone's head?

Just because you're not interested doesn't mean you can't take a peek around...and while you're at it, see if'n they need an experienced firetruck driver. I'll be glad to work part-time....November to April.

I'll let you know. Keep in mind that you would be working for people who literally get their butt wiped on a daily basis. They will expect the same from you, even if you are the fire truck driver. It's been my expeience that these people don't care. If you work for spoiled rich people, you stop whatever you are doing, and perform a task most unrelated to your actual job becuase they demand it. That could be ordering from Harry and David or cleaning a room or going to the bank. They don't give you guidlines, and if you don't do it their way, they will tell you. As an example, when I worked for the resort, after the last hurricane, I had emergency surgery. I was asked (while in a walking cast) to powerwash the owner's house because there were still traces of salt from the storm.

I replied that as I could not get my sutures wet, that was not possible. I was given a look of disgust and a bitching out. An hour later, my former employee's 10 year old son was out there with a power washer, as were his mother, and two other female employees. These people will ask EVEYRYTHING that they can think of from you. They can't even go to the bank and get their own money. It doesn't matter if you are the controller or the gardener or the fire truck driver. They DO NOT CARE. They just want whomever is available to be at their beck and call, and under their terms. I would not have believed this myself until I actually lived through it.

I think that I need to see the place and make the contact, and explain as politely as possible that if they are interested (which they quite obviosuly are, or they would not have called 5 times last week) that I don't want the commute.

But I DO want to see this place. Just to see it. And then I will probably get disgusted with excesses of wealth spent on unnecessary things by people who couldn't possibly appreciate it. People who know the cost of everything and the value of nothing, as Oscar Wilde would say.

Sorry, I'm power washing. See if the gardener is using the hose. Ask him to do what he can until we get there...won't be for another twenty minutes.

Sorry, but all of our EMT's are currently engaged in other activities. We care about your welfare. We'll get to you in the order that you called.

And have a nice day.

Never mind.
