I had the Mrs. buy some for the first time in years and I just put some on before I went out to do some yard work (blech!).

No mosquitoe bites this time, but when came in and shaved my head, I noticed that I had red blotches everywhere I used Off! Looked liked a wicked (boss to you older folks Razz) sunburn.

Oh, that's just a minor setback...I'll take the risk vs. the rash. Wink

Could be the Deet. That's wicked bad stuff. Have you tried Avon's Skin So Soft? It's a repellent too, although not marketed as such, but works for a lot of people. Of course, I am allergic to that. It's a crap shoot I think. But worth trying. You might also look another repellent that doesn't contain Deet, or something with a smaller concentration of it.

In the book I'm reading with my kid, the Native Americans used Bear Grease to keep the skeeters off.

I don't think the bear appreciated it very much tho.

Ummm the fat salvaged from a bear after a hunting expedition. The decription was that it was rather smelly as well as being, well, oily and greasy and.... puke

PH,

what was the Deet percentage in that OFF? You may just try going to a lower concentration. The problem with non deet alternatives is that they really don't work that well. Especially if you are out working in a heavely mosquito populated area.

Something else worth trying are personal mosquito repellers. I haven't tried these yet but a few guys at work have and love them.

Actually, the mosquitos are attracted to the Carbon Dioxide that you exhale. That's how they find victims. Soo...stop breathing or start moving really fast. Those are your non-chemical choices methinks. Unless..the bear grease thing turns you on. Mr. Green

Ha! My emoticons are stuck and my rolleyes guy looks like his eyes are crossed.

If you don't get one of those phallic Running Brewer thingies, I suggest you construct yourself a new hat in which you could place a strongly-scented burning citronella candle. You could also attach one of those lights you just put on your bike so you could do your yard work in the cool evening hours!
