I was printing training manuals for the trainers who will be teaching next week in my absence, while I'm in Harrisburg where no RR lives. I manually refed the sheets into the tray so they would doubleside. Jams galore.
Systems dude yells at me, because it's not a doubleside printer. I told him if he'd fix the doublesider that's been broken for SEVEN MONTHS, I'd gladly use that. I expalin that since it still remains broken despite my numerous requests to him to fix it, I have to be creative.
The things I have to endure at work ....

our tech guys in my school district have managed to distance themselves from us "lowly, computer-illiterate" teachers. We now must request "service" in writing, have the form signed by the Principal, wait for one of the techs to show up, then sign off on the form stating that the work has been performed. If it breaks again, even within minutes of the "repair" the process must be repeated. We are not permitted to pull a tech aside and ask for repairs, eventhough they are right there and could easily do it for us. This includes installing software, which we all know is easily done. I have software that accompanies my music curriculum but has never been installed on either of my computers. It doesn't really matter though, as I have not figured out how to get 1000 students computer time on my 1 computer per building.

ONE computer per building???
I am sorry, that's just wrong. Can you guys partner with a local corporation or something that surpluses old equipment (i.e. we give some rconditioned PCs to our "adopted" - public school). I don't know if you have a program like that in your city or not.

classrooms have 2 or 3 computers, and we have a lab that can accomodate about 25 kids, but I have 1 computer availabe for my use with the music students. We have just gotten some kind of partnership.

Keltic,
Make friends with some of the CATE teachers. In April, I had to spend $3000 in one day of use it or lose it money (and that was just my subject matter in CATE). I was buying stuff for the science dept. just to get rid of it. (ridiculous policy, use it or lose it.)
Then again, some of the changes that have come around as a result of this legislature, we may not have as much funding, but I know we were more than willing to share funds last year.
