I realize you're not where you want to be, but no guy who weighs 157 can consider himself "ridiculously fat." Nor should he. There's no positive to be had there. You can change everything and I'm sure you will and you'll like the way you look.
It worries me when I hear a lot of negative talk re: weight.

Not quite true. Not too long ago I did not have the tire and did not look fat when I run. I haven't ordered any race pictures in over two years because once my shirt gets wet, you notice that tire around my waist more than me.
Up until I gained the spare tire I liked the way I look just fine, graying hair and all.

nothing wrong with having goals.
i'm a little choked that my body fat is up to 11% again, and i'd really really like to be back down to 9.
but if i called myself fat, i'd probably be beaten.
that said - lots of people want to change their physical appearance. just chip away at it. my g/f says "i'm not drinking pop anymore" yet everytime we go out for dinner it's a "diet coke, please" (at least she's only have one instead of refills). work on giving stuff up a little at a time.
oh, and write down your goals. easier to chase when written down.

I don't necessarily think it is about numbers. Muscle weighs more than fat. Do your clothes still fit properly?
Also, some people are prone to weight fluctuation. I can get on a scale and from one day to the next weigh anywhere from 128 to 136 at 5'7. I wouldn't get to freaked out about the numbers if that is your history. Also, for a guy at 5'9, your weight does not seem that high, especially if it's a lot of muscle. Maybe my husband and I are just fat.
