Posted: 04/08/04 - 14:26 Post subject: I am officially benched
Ugggg.....finally went to the dr. this morning after 2 weeks of pain and swelling in my foot (I kept hoping it would just get better!). Turns out I have a stress fracture in the third metasomething and get to wear a sweet looking boot thing for at least 3 weeks, then we'll see how it's doing. What a bummer....I haven't worked out in 2 weeks and am dying to, now I can only swim or do the bike, neither of which are in my workout routine. I just don't get how I got the darn thing, I haven't been doing tons of mileage or anything, but the dr. just says it can happen even without it. Oh well, even though I look like a total dork if the boot will make it feel better it's worth it.
I can't wait to show up at the gym in this thing tomorrow and have my buddies ask me where I've been for 2 weeks and what happened!!!! I should make up some fun story instead of "I was running and it started hurting."

The metatarsal, perhaps? Sorry to hear this, Molly - a bad break (no pun intended!).
But you better have a good story for tomorrow, before someone comes up with, "We told you beforehand your foot wouldn't fit there!"

I'm so sorry Molly! Hang in there and wear that space boot like you are supposed to and you'll be back on the road in no time.

SF's SUCK, Molly, that's a bummer. Do what the doc says, unlike someone else we know who ran in her cast and you'll be back soon!
Swimming really isn't all that bad though, and you can prolly still do upper body weights, no? As long as you use the machines and sit?

I can't imagine someone doing that genie, who would be so crazy?? Seriously, how in the heck could someone run in this thing, it would be hilarious to watch.
Yep, can still do weights. I actually love to swim, just never do it as a workout, don't have a suit for that type of swimming or goggles, I guess I could get some and see if I liked it still (I was a swimmer growing up, but haven't done "laps" in forever!). I'll probably end up mostly doing the bike, but that is my least favorite cardio. Then again, it's better than nothing....
gretriever, yes, that's the word I was looking for!!!

OK Molly when life hands you lemons, make lemonade.
Its time to put biking and swimming in your workout routine. I know whence I talk from since I was not allowed to run for about 6 months last year. I also had problem running for about 1.5 years prior, so enjoy your "forced" 6 week cross training stint.
Check the paper to find a local biking club. Join them for a couple of rides.

Hmmmm....you guys do have a point, but that was already the plan and I'd like to run through it! Darnit!!!! Now if I get pregnant before I can start running again I'll probably be afraid to......oh well. It will all work out!
Thanks for all the well wishes!!!! This boot thing is already annoying me though. It's so hot and confining (the point I know). But as I am sitting here at the computer I'm giving my foot a little break, I'll put it back on before I get up! I promise!
