Posted: 02/24/06 - 18:29 Post subject: I am home from surgery
The doc found a lot of arthitis and a significant cartlidge tear. I am in a lot of pain and am under the affects of percocet. The surgery went very well. I am not sure how long I will be out of service for but I will hope to be back in the next few weeks.
I have my mom coming over tomorrow to help me with the kids, and the au pair and Carole (Abby's nurse) will also be here. Robin has been working on Saturdays to bring in extra money while I am still out of work.
I hate being down, because I am not used to not helping out. I guess a few days rest won't hurt.

Relax and get better...
You have worked your butt off for years to take care of everyone else, let them take care of you for a few days.

Relax and take advantage of the help for sure....but not too much. Most important thing for you now is to be moving that knee, keeping it still and letting it swell and stiffen up is not good. Don't do too much of course, but don't think of yourself as out, you need to be up and around. You'll be back soon, my mom did the MS 150 6 weeks post-arthroscopic knee surgery. All 180+ miles of it.

After the surgery on my right knee I was on a stepper in a week and actually "jogged" on a treadmill three weeks later. If you're in half decent shape you should be up and about very quickly.
I can tell you I wish the left knee was as good as the right knee.
Edited to add: I had the surgery on a Thursday, felt really good on Friday and did not ice too much. Saturday AM I was in lots of pain so I was forced to spend the entire weekend in my recliner, watching NFL Football and getting drugs at regular intervals and keeping ice on the knee.

I'd agree with Pff, let it have some rest of course immediately but then, move it and treat it. ICE is your friend, ok, so is the Percocet, which i won't ask for any. I'm allergic to it
i'm glad it went well and no complications
