Posted: 07/09/06 - 00:56 Post subject: I am an accident magnet, apparently...
I got hit today, by a guy who ran a red light. He was driving a HUGE white Excursion, and totalled my little old Acura. He hit my passenger side hard, and spun me around and hit me again, into a stop sign. I had my seat belt on, but am stiff and bruised up pretty badly (I was on my way to the beach). The good thing? I thought about taking Sierra (my dog) with me to the beach, but decided at the last minute to just go read and soak my feet in the salt water. A good decision, as she rides shotgun with me, and all the glass got smacked out of the passenger front window. Also, the passenger side and the front took all of the impact. She would have been hurt at least, and worst I don't want to think about.
I am so bummed. I was going to get a newer car soon within the next month, but three days ago I just got new rear brake pads put on. I thought it would make a good college student reliable transport; it got me from OH to the Keys, numerous trips tp and from Ft Lauderdale, up to St Augustine and back twice, and to Charleston and back several times. It was a good little older car. I was hoping to sell it and use the $$ as the down payment on either a newer Acura or an older Lexus I had my eye on. Actually, I have my eye on several Acuras, but there goes my down payment and my little reliable car.
I am really shaken up and bruised and stiff, but no one in either vehicle was really injured. This car is totalled. His massively huge obnoxious SUV; not so much. I am lucky I am not really hurt. His insurance will pay; my poor feet which were bad from the arthritis anyway got slammed up on impact and my ribs, neck, shoulder and breastbone hurt from the crash and the seatbelt twisting. I cannot stand these big huge SUV's; there is no fricking reason for a vehicle that large. It is just assmuch stupid.
The really sad thing? Their little boy got out of the truck and said "Hey! I've never been in a car accident before! This is cool!"
Morons, raising another moron.
Then. there is glass everywhere, and the kid is looking in my smashed up car, asking me if my window was open or if all the glass was mine, and grabbing the window. I asked him to PLEASE not touch it, and of course he did, and got cut, then said "HEy! This glass is sharp!"
All the while his parents are ignoring him.
I am really PO'd about my car. It would have been traded in for part or all of a down payment, and I just had the damn brakes fixed. Now, that's gone. Furniture shopping is going to wait until I get another vehicle. WHoever decides to visit will have to deal with the airbed or a hotel.
I am very upset. Thanks for letting me vent.

Sorry to hear that! Maybe with insurance you will get enough to make up what you planned to get for the trade in /sale for the down payment??

so sorry this happened kristin. frustrating as it is, when our car was totalled everyone kept telling me, it's just a hunk of steel. so glad you walked away, really...had he hit you coming from the other direction it would have been tragic. only way you can look at this.
morons driving a moronic vehicle, no doubt on their moronic cell phone in a big hurry to go nowhere.
glad you're okay. maybe the insurance payout will be enough for a down payment on a different acura. i know it was "just a car" but i relate completely to having had a paid for, dependable car being totally lost.
rest up and good luck, maybe your acura payout will be more than you'd imagine. i hope so.

Thank your lucky stars you are mostly unhurt, and let the rest sort itself out.
I hope the insurance payout is reasionable. Of course you have legal options depending on your convictions.
Make sure you get yourself checked out. If you have sustained injury, your bills should be covered, and you should be compensated for it.
Hope it all works out.

Jeebus Kristin that's awful. Glad you are OK. The worst part, dealing with the insurance company. You're prolly gonna get effed.

Thank you for the good advice and kind words. Everyone here is always so nice.
I haven't gone to the hospital yet; I'm trying to get in to a new GP this week anyway to get a referral for an ortho for my feet. Nothing is broken, I'm just stiff and bruised up, and I told the insurance company I was extremely sore in several places so they know it too.
I don't think that I will get much for my old car. It was worth a lot to me, and was reliable, paid for and ran quite well, but insurance adjusters just look at blue book. It had high miles but I took good care of it with oil changes regulary and scheduled maintenance and (now useless) new brakes, etc.
I am waiting to hear back from them.

Sorry Kristin accidents suck. My mom's car got totalled too. A paid for 9yr old car with only 50,000 miles on it. They'll never find anything comparable for the $3000 they are being offered for it.
Why didn't you go to the hospital in the ambulance? What is wrong with you people??!!

AMEN !! They are on the wrong side of this issue. Sue their brains out and get a nice Lexus for all you pain and suffering... Believe me you'll have aches and pains for a long long time. I had an accident back in 1970 and every once in a while I still get a back twinge...

Acuras hold their value pretty well, you should look at Kelly Bluebook online and see how much it was worth.
You should also go to the doctor tomorrow for accident related check-up. The other insurance company will pay for the doctor visit.
