Posted: 10/21/05 - 16:34 Post subject: I am actually feeling the best that I have in a while
Apparently, that emergency surgery and bed rest were needed. I don't know if anyone other than Larry knew quite how much pain I was in for the last few month. On a 1 - 10, it was an 11, and was interfering with my job, general activity, and social activity.
I don't know if it is a combo of the sugery, antibiotics, anti-inflammatories, and taking painkillers properly (not waiting until the pain is so far gone that they don't work), but my foot feels the best that it has in at least two months, regardless of surgical pain. I really feel like I can manage my health again, and that everything is in control.
I am so happy. Thank you all for your thoughts and good wishes. You are all a nice bunch of peeps.
So much for the owner and my boss, who BOTH told my husband that my foot pain/bone infection were in my head. I'm probably not going back to work there.

No, I think you are all nice people. If I couldn't say something nice, well, I just would not say it.
As far as the kick, let's wait until the right foot is stable enough to hold up the left for me to practice my mad kickboxing skillszz. I think I still have it.

That's where I will plant my foot bootie/cast thing. And leave it there, sans foot. And thank you.

Glad to hear it Kristin......pain is such a difficult thing to assess. It's different for everyone. And even the same pain can be different for the same person.
2 c-sections, one was living hell and one was "hey, can I go home? I have shopping to do". Multiple bloodblisters underneath toenails, all painless, until 2 weeks ago....I was screaming if anyone walked near me.
Just glad, yours is becoming tolerable, I know how much you want to get off the pain meds.

It is hard. I have a very high tolerance for pain (I ran about 6 miles on an undiagnosed stress fracture in my right femur before limping home). This pain was way, way different than anything I evere experienced in my life. I felt like I wasn't in control of my health anymore, and considering the conditions down here, it was pretty frickng scary. When the surgeon started talking about removing bones on Sunday morning (the day of the surgery) and doing reconstructive later on, I pretty much flipped. I went into surgery crying. Larry was on his way to the hospital, after working about a 15 hour night, but wasn't there yet, and they put me out before he got there. I literally went under not knowing if I would have a whole foot when I got done or not. I'm lucky, they didn't take any bones out, and I am feeling much better.
I know all about the toenail blood blisters! They are no fun. While I have had them I never had a painful one, but I know a LOT of people who have.
From the Dam to Dam race in 2002 in Iowa, somewhere, there are a bunch of people's toenail pics. Somwhere. On the internet.
I haven't had children, or (obviously) a C-secion, but it sounds rough.
I don't know. Like you said, everyone's pain is different.
I guess I should also add that what made the surgery more scary was that I woke up Saturday night, with an IV inserted inproperly, pumping in too quickly, which damaged my vein, and caused the antibiotic and piggyback IV with dextrose to spill all over the bed. I woke up with ants crawling all over my blankets from the fluid. My arms look like a heroin addicts (and I have always had "good veins".) That matter made me a lot more worried about the competency of the staff.
The one good thing; if the insurance tries to stick this under "pre-existing: and not pay, we'll end up with money, as this was emergency surgery, required because of a bone infection, brought on because I needed other surgery but could not have it until Jan 1 because of the "pre-existing condition". We need a better health care system. It should NOT come to this . And if they mess with me, I WILL sue. I don't need the hassle, and after what happened with Larry's AFLAC mess...well, we have paid more than ehough, and only received minimal compensation.
The insurance company will end up paying more for three nights in the hospital and emergency surgery and required follow-up visits than if they would have paid for th original, required suregry. And they will pay for that, too, because the emergency procedure is only a temporary fix.
I'm just happy I'm feeling better, but still scared, and doubtful of the quality of healthcare here.
Thanks to all for being so nice through everything.

Whew!!! Big relief, I bet....I'm so glad to hear it all went well. I know how scared you sounded when I talked to you that night. It must have been even worse than you originally thought!!
I agree...there has to be somewhere else you can work down there, even if you have to go out of town, rather than put up with those azzholes again. Let them abuse someone else.
