Ran even though I knew I probably should have bagged it. Was chip-timed, but they only had sensor pads at the end! They started 1000+ runners, walkers et al at the same time. I timed myself from were I thought the starting line was (no clear marker, just an airhorn). My first mile was like 6:15, and the got progressively slower as the heat (80 f 85% humidity) and my lack of preparedness set in. I didn't walk (although based on my time, you might find that hard to believe!) Once I finished the race (mercifully) my heel pain flared up to the point of nausea.
Me and PJ pre-run (notice my ignorant smile)
At the finish Line 52+ minutes later
Me trying to numb the pain!
My Lovely bride (EL, she's MINE!)
My lovely daughter, Isabella:

Ditto to what Joe said. A race with free beer, not to bad.

Hey, a lot of our Philly races have free beer...if you guys would show up once in a while you'd know that!!
Sorry to hear it didn't go well, Phil....I got it good from the heat yesterday too! It was miserable. Great pics though--your family is gorgeous! Hopefully we'll get some of the gang together for a fall race up north somewhere when the weather is better. Now get your butt (and heel) to a doc and get that thing looked at......

Monk,
Sorry to hear you did not have the race you wanted. I hope your heel feels better soon.

Thanks Sandy, Genie, PH, Joe and Greg.
After a day of resting, I am happy I raced, even if I ran it slower than I would have liked, and my heel pain has quited down a bit. I left a message with my cousin/podiatrist and hope to meet with her soon. Depending on what she says, I might bag the NYC Marathon this year . I am about a month behind in my training already.
Genie, as for PA races, again, depending on the prognosis of my heel, I would love to run a 10k or so in Pa. It wouldn't be so tough to get my wife there for a weekend (she just loves the Poconos!). I have been to Jim Thorpe a few times and want to move there! (Its probably the only place not in NY that I would live). I don't know your area of Pa, so let me know of any upcoming races that look good. Maybe we can get the East Coast posse together!

Congrats on finishing at least, Monk! Sorry you struggled. Wish I had your support group when I ran!
