kristen, are you evacuating again? How do people who live in the Keys get anything done this time of year?! I so couldn't deal with the constant threat of storms like that.

Hurricane season lasts from June 1 - November 30. 6 friggin months. What happens after Z? Southern sounding double names? Annabelle Amy? Billy Bob? This has been a tough season.
I hope you're safe Kristin

There are no names that begin with q, u, x, y, or z. After the 21st storm (w), they name them after the greek alphabet... alpha, beta,...
It's never happened in the ~60 years that storms have been named. This season ties the record for most named storms and most hurricanes with Wilma.

I've just decided that even if I had the choice to move back to Florida again, I would not.
Sigh.

Could very well be the strongest hurricane on record in the Atlantic basin in terms of pressure. Recorded 884mb with a dropsonde and extrapolated that to 881 at the surface.
Winds of 175 mph.
She is expected to weaken, though. Thank God.

The projected path puts that thing right through the middle of my backyard. I am so tired of this hurricane season already, enough is enough.
The hurricane isn't half as bad as the friggin prep. Then it doesn't come and all the shutters and prep has to come down, then another one is on the way so the shutters go back up. It's a huge pain in the arse.

I don't know what we are doing yet. It's supposed to drop to a 1 or 2 by the time it hits us. I've got a bigger problem in that I just had foot surgery and a bone infection, so we've got to figure out how to deal with that. I can't drive or walk right now.
I have a dr appointment today to see how it's healing.
We'll go fom there.
NO one gets anything done. It's a big clusterf&ck of moving stuff here, there, and everywhere, getting further behind, trying to pay people who are trying to get out before the banks close. We're not cleaned up from the last damn one.
By the time we get our stuff done (welcome to the wonderful world of management) it's too late for us to get out, like last time. This time, we may not give a crap and just go.
This was a bad time to have surgery but it was an emergency.

The 11 Am advisory has it moving further north. Good news, for me at least.

WHAT! That is insane! Just last night it was a measly category 1!
3 of the strongest 5 storms ever in 1 season... global warming people are going to have a field day with this.
