Of course, the weatherman said rain, but we got lucky and it was just HOT and humid. No rain.

The day started like any other race morning, up, eat, go to the bathroom...etc. Lucy and I drove just over an hour to the race site that morning. Actually she drove, I shaved my legs. I forgot the night befpre and I was stubbly. Smile

Lucy body marks me so I don't have to stand in the long lines. While she was marking me a small line formed behind me. They thought she was doing the marking. I felt bad telling everyone that my wife wasn't going to mark them all. She might have liked to though.

I got to the race site late and the rack for my bike was full, so I put my bike in the next rack over. Why do people take so much room? All you need is your sneakers, bike shoes, a towel and a hat. I don't get it. I guess I'm just used to transition and don't bother with all the stuff I used to bring.

The swim is in a huge "bowl" of hot, mucky, extremely salty water. Over time the waves have formed the large area near the beach where during high tide the water is about 6-8 feet only feet from the beach. It then has a large sandbar and then tapers out. Anyway, you swim in this long bowl. The water gets very hot in some areas. I'm not real sure why.

Hit the water and got a rhythm almost immediately. I felt good and I was just chugging along. I swam stroke for stroke with another swimmer for almost half the distance. I only lost her when we made the u turn to head back in. To bad, she was pushing me and I'm sure I was pushing her too.

Out of the water in 28:33. not bad for me. I was only 3 minutes behind the leaders so I must be improving. Usually the leaders are a good 5 minutes ahead of me out of the water.

t1 is a long beach run to the bikes. About a 1/4 mile. When I got to I realized t1 they had moved my bike. I was speaking with another athlete prior to the race and he said that they called my number, out I knew it might have been moved. I thought for sure I would get a penalty, but nope. I found my bike without too much and I was out on the road.

I love biking. That said I dropped the hammer immediately. I wanted a sub 1 hour ride, but the hill (aka Large bridge) and the strong head wind on the way back in held me just short. 1:06:29. Average speed of 22.4. Pretty slow as times go, but I was 4th in age group, so the times must have been slow all around.

I hit t2, grabbed my hat and racebelt and out on the run.

HOT. The temps were really climbing by now. It must have been in the high 80's and the since we were right on the beach the air was thick as glue. I was really sweating hard and I knew my time was gonna suck. Last year I ran just over 44 minutes and I was hoping to better it this year. Nope. 48:19. Average 7:47. I think part of the reason it was so slow is because I had no one pushing me. I ran most of the course without seeing any other athletes. I turned around a few times and since I didn't see anybody I had no real reason to push harder. I'm speculating here. It could be I just stink.

Crossed the line in 2:28:02. 4th place in the 35-39 age group. Since the awards were 5 deep, I got hardware.

Richard ages up in November so I won't have to race him at IMFL. We do all the same races and he beats me every time Evil or Very Mad I'll get him some time. BTW, He is a tri coach and a multiple IM finidher including KONA.

The race was an olympic tri. .93 mile swim, 24.3 mile bike and a 6.2 mile run.

Great Tri Report M26.2!

Hardware is nice! thumbs up

It's a great report whether you wanted to finish better or not! You swim sounded like it was a smooth one. You battled a bit with the wind with your bike, so you probably would have had a faster ride. I bet it was the heat that slowed you with your run. It all looks great to me. Be proud of your results.

Congrats! Mr. Green

Excellent job out there! So you shaved your legs in the car? How did you do that? I never thought to bring a marker and avoid the body marking line, one more thing on my "to bring" list.
