disrupt the routine, just ever so slightly. They just don't seem to handle the change very well.
Today, our students are eating lunch outside. It's a beautiful day, sunny and warm. PTO is decorating the cafeteria for the annual Spring Fling dance that takes place this evening, so they requested the change. Kids are loving the "picnic"; the teachers are just hating it. It's all they've talked about all morning. A handful of teachers have lunch duty (maybe 6 of them) and they are absolutely wild. We are in the middle of our 3rd lunch now and I haven't heard of any major problems.

Ha! That's funny. Probably the younger the class they teach, the more upset they are.

Absolutely! and it doesn't affect most of them anyway. They just drop the kiddo's off at the cafeteria.

I think the longer you teach elementary (especially primary) the more you get rigid in your routine. When my friend was a TOC she got called out to do a day of kindergarten and I mentioned that must be a lot of fun and she said no, it was really hard work because the kids are so young and new to school that any little variance in their routine threw them for a loop. Imagine how flexible a kindergarten teacher must be! not
