You shouldn't have wished for the phone to ring!
(kidding, just kidding, please don't flog me, well, at least not hard!)
Seriously,
Not all men suck. We all have a lapse in judgement at some time or another. The good news? You can learn from this mistake and move on. Learn what kind of guy NOT to pick next time.
Oh..and this makes me laugh

He knows how and when to push your buttons. It's a control freak trait.
You can chose to let him, or not....and you DO have that choice.
From my experience it has been much more fun not to react....it seems to upset the X that she no longer has any control over me.

These days are always classic for exes to get shots in on each other. It is a low down tactic.

this is the best, isn't it? my stbx seems to pick days or times that she knows are special in some way, then she tries to rattle the cage. The best reaction to it is a non-reaction. I'd have to go back and look in the journals I've kept to list all the statements she has made that were basically designed to cause me grief. She hasn't carried out most of her comments/threats.

Jen put it in perspective. He could have been calling to tell you he's HIV postive or something. THIS you can live through because you are strong enough tochoose to let it edify you rather than deconstruct you.

Jen, sorry to hear this
you already nailed it, he's an A hole and he just wants to hurt you as much as possible.
ignore his immature antics, it's hard to but you'll be better off for it.
