So I'm riding to work this morning and the last little leg of my ride can get a little hairy because I have to ride for about 1.5 mi. on a 4 lane road w/ a raised median.

I'm pedaling along and this 18 wheeler comes barreling down beside me within inches of me. Shocked I could have stuck my elbow out and hit his trailer. I couldn't go any farther right of I'd have wrecked for sure, the shoulder is dirt and rough and junky.

Once he got past me I pedaled like mad to catch back up with him. Got his truck number and the 800 number to call for a complaint.

Called in my complaint right before lunch and talked to a guy that handles them. He took down the time and place info and apologized and said goodbye. I asked if I'd hear back from him, and he said probably not.

Now that I'm back from running, I think I should insist on an apology (either written or verbal) from the driver. That's a bunch of crap the he didn't move over in to the other lane. He risked my life for his convenience. burning mad

a lot of people John would've called 911 you did right. I am sure if a bunch of complaints are received about the driver something will likely be done.

The complaint line guy said that if he gets 2 or more complaints that they'll serious look at letting him go.

I'd take the hairless route from now on so you'll live to dial 1-800-MY-NEXT-BIRTHDAY. Wink

There is no hairless route. My only other option is a 6 lane road. Shocked

or if he actually runs over somebody.. what a line o'hooie.

And then he does get fired for complaint calls, but can only remember being told about that one cyclist outside of 'lanta. So now a pissed driver has it in for you. Dang situation is a lose-lose.

This country definitely needs more bike lanes/trails or less morons. Both equally hard to get done.
