This one is as good as any, not so much for "predicting" race times, but scroll a little farther down and the "estimated training paces" is a decent way of getting where your pace should be for a specific type of workout. |
Whoa.... I plugged in Friday night's 5K PR for me (22:21) and it gave me some pretty intense pace figures. Thanks for the tip jrjo!

I like the challenge of improving my performance on the road, but I want to set some realistic goals for '04 as I do some long-term planning.

A couple of thoughts:
1) Don't be afraid to set big goals
2) Don't let your age discourage you
About a year ago I started to get serious about my running after reading a magazine article (Runners World?) about how President Bush runs his 5K in about a 7min/mile pace (actually, I think it's a bit faster than that.) I was quite surprised. Here's a guy that is 20 years OLDER than I with a MUCH busier schedule than I, and he's kicking my a$$. Up to that point I was starting to use my age as an excuse for why I didn't run like I did when I was 18.
My guess is that most runners (myself included) can attain much higher goals than we believe we can. And passion seems to be ingredient that gets us to those goals.

I though he did sub 7's. Supposedly, he is quite the runner and takes his Secret Service guys out for long, brutal mid-day runs on his Waco ranch.
