Well put, EL. I've known more people who have ruined their lives and careers and health wasting their time on the internet than those that watch TV.

Very little that some would consider entertainment is interactive.

one - and we did without that one, as a test, four about three months last spring -
The one we have is used sparingly

I can't imagine trying to get 7 people to agree on one TV program.

nobody said it would be easy - that's why the TV blackout for three months - and it worked - the TV is hardly on and they do not miss it
we keep the kids on a tight string when it comes to TV - so most of what is watched is below the intelligence of the older two, in terms of entertainment value, Regardless of what they watch - it is the trailers for the primetime shows are also what need to be watched out for

Sports is a great equalizer

PS - what's with the insane clown posse - that's the pa posse's houseband

I don't watch much TV. Kids' TV watching is cyclical more in the winter, hardly at all in the summer.

4.....1 downstairs family room, 1 teeny-tiny one in the sunroom, one above the bar, and one that use to go into my van on long trips (have dvd now). My living room has a built in entertainment center for big screen, but kitchen, living room, and bedrooms are banned from tv. It's too accessible.

Console games rock my face off! I won't get one because I'll quit running and riding and spend all of my time playing games.

figured Pebs would have gotten to this by now
but we currently have 2 hooked up with another in storage til we move.

How could anyone say that TV isn't interactive with quality shows like
The Batchelor
or Amazing Race (whatever #) LOL

Two - one works, one barely (no sound). I've noticed a sudden increase in usage lately, and <gasp>, it' been tuned to baseball.

What sort of familial environment are you creating when everyone in the house is encouraged to isolate themselves from the rest of the family? And how can you monitor what and how often they watch TV if you are never in the same room? Nope, I have one TV and only one TV in my house and it will always be that way, even when my Guppy arrives. We barely watch TV as it is. But that's just me. Smile

You can monitor what they watch by not having cable/antenna/sattelite dish and only using tapes/DVDs.

oh geeeeze, here goes:

one in basement for Playstation II
one in family room
one in bedroom
and my son saved his money and bought a little one for his room.

i thought this would be the end of my seeing him--he never turns it on.

he'd much rather watch Junkyard Wars with me downstairs. or Jackass. or whatever quality program we surf upon.

tv is limited to one hour a day here and it is "savored" by both of them.
