While I was going home from work I have noticed a group of people on their bikes who were probably commuters just like me. They were riding rather fast having in mind the circumstances - a bad road, hills, cars rushing by and similar. How fast do you ride? I am not in that good shape but I go around 13 mph. Thank you very much in advance.

Hi there. As I can see from your post you are not that bad. You are in the range of the average speed in the city limits. Of course, you are a recreational rider so you shouldn’t expect more. I am not a professional rider as well but I ride for 10 years so far. Therefore, I do not consider myself as an amateur anymore. On some days with the “good legs”, good weather and road conditions I can go around 30mph. And when it comes to a downhill ride, I managed to reach 35mph once. Bear in mind that for achieving such speeds you need to have the good gear, professional, actually .
