Since gas prices have crept back up again, I thought this might be timely.
Is $2.00/gal too much?
How about $5.00/gal?
Everybody's got a breaking point.

Are you some kind of Socratic-method bigot?
I would quit driving right now if I could. I'd love to walk to work or take public transportation.

A lot. Probably more than 5$/gal. At $5/gal, it would cost me $80/week for gas just to go to and from work. Public transportation would cost about that much and it would add 2 1/2 hours of commute time. If I rode my bike to work, it would add 1 hour each way. I consider my time to be worth a lot, at least as much as I earn per hour, so it would cost me more in time than in gas at the end of the week.

At $5 a gallon we will have a hard time affording many more important things than gas.

We already paid $2+ a gallon on the trip over here. That hurt!
(But I'd pay anything to make it out of Joisey!!)
Fortunately, most of our driving is for pleasure so we don't do a lot. (BC lives 2 miles from work) I think at $3.00 I'd tone down pleasure driving a little, at $5.00 I'd prolly stop all pleasure driving and go out only when absolutely necessary.
