by your favorite athlete make you feel about them?
No different?
A little disappointed?
Wish they'd do more?
What about the TD celebrations in the endzone?
Are they over the top? Do they offend you? Or are the merely fun?
What about bragging?
No biggie because it's not bragging if they can do it? Or does it offend you?
Do you prefer humility in your athletes?
Which athlete embodies the qualities you most admire and appreciate?

As long as the atheletes I admire keep it under control off the playing field I generally don't mind what they do on the playing field.

Trash talking especially in football is part of the game. I enjoy it.

No different? I HATE IT
A little disappointed? YEP
Wish they'd do more? NOPE
What about the TD celebrations in the endzone? SPIKE IT OR HAND IT TO THE REF. THE DANCES ARE ASSININE
Are they over the top? Do they offend you? Or are the merely fun? THEY'RE STUPID
What about bragging? YOU BETTER BE THE BEST AT WHAT YOU DO
No biggie because it's not bragging if they can do it? Or does it offend you? I CAN'T STAND TO SEE SOME JACKASS MAKE A TACKLE ON SPECIAL TEAMS AND THEN SPRINT AROUND THE FIELD BEATING HIS CHEST LIKE HE JUST WON THE GAME. FOR CRYING OUT LOUD, THAT'S WHAT YOU ARE PAID TO DO IS MAKE TACKLES.
Do you prefer humility in your athletes? NOT PARTICULARLY

Know what you very rarely see, but I think is the loudest statement a football player can make?
When you score, quietly walk over to the ref and hand him the ball.

What about the TD celebrations in the endzone? Depends on the "celebration" if it's spontaneous celebration, no. If it's pre-planned and shows up the other team no.
Are they over the top? Do they offend you? Or are the merely fun?
again, depends.
What about bragging?
Confidence is great, cockiness is not. Where do you draw that line?
No biggie because it's not bragging if they can do it? Or does it offend you?
Do you prefer humility in your athletes?
Yes, but it's a rare quality

Well, up until a few weeks ago, I would have said Kobe Bryant without hesitation. Which just goes to show you how much we really know about these people.

If your trash talking can be substantiated, why not? Kid Rock said it best: "People say I'm cocky / I say WHAT? / It ain't braggin' mothafubba / If you back it up."

Do athletes other than boxers trash talk? I think those guys in the WWF probably trash talk. I don't watch TV sports news so if others do too, I don't know about it.
I'd be hard pressed to name a Favorite Athlete. I appreciate those with quiet confidence... People like Lance Armstrong, Mario Lemieux, Wayne Gretsky. I don't follow many popular sports let alone individual athletes.
I don't even know if those WWF guys are athletes. Performers, yes. Athletes, ?

I don't know many either, but I'm familiar with Lance Armstrong and Andre Agassi. I think the reason I know of them is because of their class. They praise their competition and they are great sportsmen.
In answer to Aire's Q's:
by your favorite athlete make you feel about them? Yes
A little disappointed? Yes, I don't like trash talking.
Wish they'd do more? No
What about the TD celebrations in the endzone? I like Alan's response, but a little joy is acceptable. A full-on celebration is unnecessary unless there's no time left on the clock.
What about bragging? I dislike bragging.
Which athlete embodies the qualities you most admire and appreciate? Don't know enough of them, so I'll stick with the two I mentioned above; Lance and Andre.

Jordan was also know to be quite a "wicked" trash talker, if anyone was foolish enough to start it.

I'd just like to see more performing than talk. Maybe watching too much Randy Moss has gotten me ill of the trash talk, but everytime MNF hooked up their "Miked Up" last season, I just couldn't believe how dopey those guys ended up sounding. I'll cast my vote for a thumbsdown on trashtalk.

I'd have to agree that I like to see more "performance" than talk. Prove it!
Boxers are mainly what I had in mind-and some football/basketball players.
I get tired of the trash talking and it tends to take a little of the "shine" off of a player for me.
Coach, I agree about Kobe. Although he has already committed one transgression, let's hope he's not guilty of the more serious charge. He is one of the most gifted, graceful athletes I have ever seen. I love just watching a game for Kobe--he is beautiful to watch.
My all-time favorite--David Robinson. He rocks!
Do coaches or owners set the tone? Do they care? Or does the team personality just lend itself/not lend itself to grandstanding?

The greatest trash talker of all time was Larry Bird. (Bird used to tell the entire defense where he was going to hit the game winning shot from as they were lining up to defend it.) Mike was probably a close second.
Howevah, nobody watching the game on TV ever had any idea that either Jordan or Bird were saying anything to anyone else. They didn't pound their chests or point fingers.
They did their trash talk quiety under their breath and the things they said REALLY hurt their opponents confidence. And they usually ended the trash talk not by pointing the final score, but by pointing out the final score and the place where the new championship banner was going to be placed the following season.
Today, you see guys on crappy teams make a huge scene after a marginally average play. The play, the team, and the game usually doesn't have any impact on the playoffs or championship. It is just one average Joe trying to show up some other average Joe. That is useless trash talk, IMO.

I mean it's just pathetic. I watched a newsclip the other night of nearby NFL training camp and seeing these 'duded' up guys pull up to the curb in no parking zones with their big decked out Suburbans and strut to practice swaggering with confidence that comes from their wallets and not their stats.
