There have been two cases here in Tulsa about parents leaving their babies in the hot car. Their excuse? They FORGOT. How do you forget? I have never forgotten my daughter anywhere.

The first baby was 9 weeks old and left for 2 hours in the driveway by the mother and died yesterday. The other was a little older and left for 30 minutes. The 30 minute one is still in intensive care.

That is not an acceptable excuse.

We are living so hard and so fast that our minds are racing with the next thing that has to be done. It's not an excuse, just an observation.

Something similar happened here in Philly a year or so ago. Although this case involved a grandparent.

I agree with Rob, I forgot is not an excuse

i've done some fairly absent-minded things under pressure but forget my child in the car? i don't care how stressed i am, that's not happening ever.
how can you forget the infant in the car when your entire world is revolving around that little person? Confused

i did almost forget to raise the garage door while backing out-that was the worst newborn frazzle i experienced.

That's what I see is the 'excuse' is their world is NOT revolving around that little person. In the "all about me" culture of today, people like these Tulsa dolts don't realize being a parent means the lives of your children come before your own.

i just don't see how, even with the most all about me person, this could happen. validly forget - no way. conveniently forget - maybe. i swear it's almost biological in a new mother; i mean 9 weeks old???? you forget you have a 9 week old? i don't think so. every fiber in your body is saying baby at that point in its life. if she forgot, she planned to forget.

I would suspect something like severe postpartum depression.

Selfishness is definately a part of human nature, wanting to murder your own baby isn't.

Or just being so depressed as to not even notice or care that you have a child. I've heard PPD can be just devastating. One of the many, many things that scares me about becoming a parent. I should have had children when I was young and didn't think too much.
