I want to determine my exact stem length. I am not sure how to do it. Do you measure from the centre point of the steerer hole to the centre point of the bar hole? Is there some other method of measuring it? I'm trying to determine what length of stem my bike came with to help me decide what size to get now. I am thinking of purchasing a shorter stem then I have now.

Stems will normally be a multiple of 5mm, so you can normally get by with a tape measure if you keep this in mind. If there are any graphics on the stem, it's usually written somewhere on it, probably hidden somewhere. If you cant find it, measure it center to center. Contrary to some other bike measurements, this should be standard. I don't know what you're using now, but 50mm is probably too short stem for a road bike. On the other hand a 140 or so is probably too long
