What do you yell out when you have to be politically correct and not curse?

Holy Smokes is my current non-swear of choice when the bball team is not playing well.

Heavens to Betsy (or Heavens to Wendy... my cousins daughters are named Betsy and Wendy, so I interchange them... kids laugh, even though the Heavens to X is directed towards them 99% of the time).

or

Heavens to Mergatroid.

I'm trying to curb my cursing. I think in my previous life I was a sailor. I curse a lot. Will was sitting here the other day, telling us he hates cussing. I asked why, and his little 7yo self says "Hello, haven't you heard of 'bad influence?' I used this as an opportunity to discuss influences in our lives, telling him that he could be among people who didn't always do good things (using the one about if your friends jumped off a cliff, would you?) and he understood... but yes, good that he doesn't want to be around people who cuss. Mama's gotta change her ways!!

Yeah, great idea!

When you're attending the Defense Language Institute as a Serbo-Croatian linguist, you can make friends with people studying other languages such as Russian, Chinese, Arabic, etc. You have ample opportunities to share some "knowledge" with each other.

Mr. Green

But it's Holy Schneike! right now.

Brie, there are some of us here who were sailors in our previous life. And I know sailors who'd rather keep quiet than curse. I didn't learn any new words when I was in. However, I did learn a little about constucting more elaborate curses. I mean, we both can have a block of marble but how it's sculpted is what matters. Although I doubt I'm going to come up with a "David" ala Michelangelo, I can get those chips flying. It didn't hurt to work with a bunch of firefighters for over twenty years, either!
