Has anyone heard of this site? I discovered last week. The Hollywood Stock Exchange works like a real stock exchange would, in that you can buy and sell shares of stock and bonds. The difference is the stocks you can buy are movies and the bonds are actors and actresses.

A movie stock is valued, initially at the dollar amount it is expected to gross in its first four weeks of release. So, "White Chicks" for example is currently valued at $49.04, which means that it is expected to gross 49 million in its first four weeks. If you buy stock in White Chicks, you would assume that the movie is going to make more than that in the first 4 weeks and when the stock "closes", you'll be credited the new value of the stock. Of course, White Chicks could tank and you'll lose money. Right now i'm on a slight losing end on a gamble that "Vanity Fair" (a Reese Witherspoon movie due out in September) is gonna hit big.

Buying and selling of stock can happen at any time, and the stock is revalued every week based on the weekend gross.

Movie Bonds, based on actors and actresses are a little bit more complex in figuring out value and when bonds are due for a big jump or drop in value.

This is a longer term type game to play (i'm sure there are folks who have been playing for years) and can be competitive if you want to join a league and compare against one another or just to see how much money you can earn. You start out with two million to invest with.

Anyone want to check it out and join up?

Also, if someone signs up through a "tell a friend" e-mail, i can get some extra cash to invest with, so if you'd like to join and play and help out a pug...let me know so i can send you that "Tell a friend". I don't want to just send out the e-mail without it being solicited.

never heard of it, but it sounds interesting....

I'll have to wait until I'm a full time employee, though.

So what is the official RR movie, "Office Space," going for?

It isn't. Only movies that do not have 4 months in wide release are available for trading. So, any movie currently in theatres for less than 4 weeks and those in development. I have 50,000 shares (the most you can buy of a single stock) of a movie called "The Burial", which has Ron Howard tentatively attached to direct. If this thing actually goes into production and gets released...i'm going to make some serious money (shares are less than a dollar right now, and it would certainly close at above $20 a share), but that is probably quite a ways off if i'm still playing.

Might want to look into buying a few Christian Bale bonds. After American Psycho, he has been quiet, yet he is currently filming his role in the lead of the next Batman movie, which is rumored to be much darker, more serious, and has more excitement surrounding it.

As did I. The movie is not for everyone, but it is a really interesting and incredibly dark comedy that, when appreciated for the comedy it is, is thoroughly entertaining.

So, folks, who will do a better job as Alexander? Colin Farrell or Leonardo DiCaprio? Whose stock will soar?

Ugh, I had a long post on Christian Bale's future bond prices, but the short of it is that Bale is currently listed at $32.80. He has a movie coming out in October called "The Machinist". This movie is only slated to make two million. When a movie stock delists, it affects an actor's Total Adjusted Gross (TAG), which is just the average of the last 5 movies that an actor completed. When "The Machinist" delists, it will knock "Shaft" off of Bale's TAG. When the TAG is adjusted because of a movie delisting, the actor's bond price is adjusted to match the TAG (after which, the market forces can start affecting the bond price again). The adjustment after "The Machinist" delists will drive Bale's bond price down to around $15 a share (depending on the exact total the movie delists at).

Batman Begins, which is currently slated for June 05, will likely shoot the TAG (and thus the bond price) back up to, i'm guessing, $45 (assuming that Batman ends up with 175 million after its first 4 weeks.

Long term investing can probably make some good money off of Bale if you sell him short before "The Machinist" and then take a long term investment and wait for Batman to hit.

Did i say this was going to be a short post?
