I tip the hairdresser well during the rest of the year, but as I have a hair appointment near CHristmas and she is great and it was so hard to find someone good down here, she'll get a bit extra.
We know the trash guys, so they get tipped personally. This is a small town.
No newspaper carrier.
The mail people are NOT providers of decent service down here, nor is there one regular person. We're lucky if they hit the mailbox. No holiday tip.
I will tip extra to the people that wait on us on a regualr basis at our hangouts. We will make an extra stop and do an extra big tip on one check. That's what my regulars used to do for me when I was waiting tables/tending bar back in Ohio. I remember well how much those "extra" tips helped out and were appreciated. If all it takes is a few extra bucks once in a while to make someone happy (considering that they have made your life more special all year long by providing good, friendly service) it's definitely worth it.
Just my thoughts.
