our trash guys are township employees, I see them all of the time. They take everything no matter how many cans I put out. They are friendly and I always take the kids out to say hi to them. The all take a minute to stop what they are doing to say hi to the kids and talk also.

I think Rex wants to know how to get it to them since we're never there when they are.

Send the tip in when you pay the bill. I'd think that would work.

We don't get billed for our trash or recycling collection.

The fee for our trash pickup is included in our property taxes

Is there any kind of reconciliation on how much trash gets taken away versus how much you pay? Is it a fixed fee? Or is it a percentage of the property tax?
I'm just wondering if there's any financial incentive to recycle then with that setup. For me, the more I recycle (which I can drop off for free), the less 'trash' I have and at $2 per 33-gall bag, it's money-wise to recycle.
Interesting. I never realized some urban areas were like that.

In my borough, we get 2 pickups a week (Tuesday and Friday). Every Friday is also bulk pickup. You can throw as much or as little out as you want. We pay a flat fee. Last year it was $90.00 per household. The borough recycles twice a month, paper, and cans. That is a separate collection.

I've never heard of your way! In Kentucky it was part of property taxes, in my parents' part of town its part of once annual fixed home owner's association fees.

Despite the city wage tax, Philadelphia property taxes are ridiculously low; one of the reasons I moved to the city. Seriously, they were a sixth of those in the town 1 mile up the road from me in the next county. Trash pickup - unlimited trash, too - every Monday, recycles every other Monday. Bigger items (refrigerators, stoves, etc.) require a phone call, but are hauled away tout suite.

In Charlotte, we didn't pay our trash people (although I'm sure we paid in some tax, somehow) AND recycling wasn't an option. You HAD to recycle. If you didn't and they figured it out, you wouldn''t get your trash collected anymore.
I had 3 HUGE HUGE HUGE rubbermaid containers (that I bought) for my recycling, plus the pink tub the city gave us. Filled them up every week. I was a recycling nut.

Just tipped my Township trash guys. They appreciated the tip, JJ went over and handed it to them.
These guys work in all kinds of weather and never mind if I put out all 7 of my trash cans full of stinky diapers in the summer.
They work hard and give great service. Therefore they get tipped.
