Different cadences have their role in cyclist’s overall form. Pedaling slow or fast serve to different purposes. If developing a nice pedal stroke and improving your aerobic capacity is your goal then you should go for the high cadence (100 rpm and even higher). On the other hand, low cadence (50-60 rpm) cycling, against a big resistance, will aid in development of muscular endurance and cycling-specific power. Riding somewhere in the middle, about 75-80 rpm is good for building sheer endurance. It is not too difficult and you can maintain the intensity for 30, 45, or even 60 minutes. Still it will make your body adapt and grow stronger.
