I ran in the Paul De Bruyn 30K in Ormond Beach Florida for the first time on Saturday November 23, 2002. So I have unofficially set a new PR. Very Happy I felt great today. Granted I was using this race as a training run for the Jacksonville Marathon that is coming up in about 3 weeks. It was great course and the weather was really nice. It was about 40 degrees at start time and I was debating on tights and long sleeve tee but I stripped down to just my shorts and a tank and gloves and boy was I glad I did. (I have to remember to lube my legs by my shorts though Sad Ouch :!:

My splits were:
Mile: Split
1 8:45
2: 5:36
3: 8:26
4: 9:08
5: I forgot to hit my split button
6: 18:09
7: 8:36
8; 8:41
9: 8:46
10: 8:41
11: 8:27
12: 8:08
13: 8:32
14: 8:22
15: 8:10
16: 7:56
17: 7:44
18: 7:54
Finish 5:05
Total = 2:38.09 (They had me at 2:38.25 I think??)
I even got 11'th in my age group.

I felt really good until the last water stop near mile 18. I walked through drinking my cup of water (like all my water stops) and I had a hard time getting back in gear again. Oh well. I did it!!! One of my running partners finished about a minute ahead and the other one finished about 10 seconds ahead. I almost caught him in the final half mile as my brain asked my lungs if they had it in them and they said yes, so the Brain told the legs and feet to get moving. Unfortunately the legs said NOPE. We are worn out. If you hadn't walked at that last water stop we might have been able to do it.

WHen I finished I didn't even have an urge to puke

My only dissappointment was that I couldnt catch my running partner. There is always the marathon. This was my longest run to date!

After the race it was on to the free food and cheers

Great Job Eric, negative splits too. 11th in the age group is great. Looks like you are ready for the Jax marathon.
