Posted: 09/30/03 - 08:29 Post subject: Help me with my vacation (places)
Its that time of the year.
Vacation time.
So I have 6 weeks of vacation (29 days off) to take this year and with all
the travel days and time off earlier with the death of my dad
and taking 6 days off for the trip to Calgary next week, I'll
still have 14 days (3 weeks almost) of vacation time come
December.
So I'm looking for a two week trip and figured I'll ask here.
The trip wil be for two weeks.
Land or Sea is optional.
While not a fan of the beaches I'll add that to the mix.
Winter places will be considered.
My first choice is something outside the borders of the United States.
Just give me a mini review of places you "would" recommend.
Thanks in advance.

Cancun, Mexico. Party town, nice weather all year around, relatively inexpensive, lots to do

The Caribbean would be nice though I havent been there before. Australia/NZ would also be a good choice (it's summer down there in December) or if you have an exotic taste try Polynesia or Southeast Asia (Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, Philippines...)

Europe is possible.
New Zealand & Australia are out of my budget range for a two week
period.
I manage to get 10 numbers of travel agents overseas to book my travel (if overseas is my final choice) instead of using an travel agent here and paying higher fees (tip of the day).
Thanks so far.

England or France would be awesome that time of year. Williamsburg, VA is great around the holidays, too, but not for two weeks. Could be a good start point.

I agree...I'd do a tour and not limit myself to one place for two weeks. Or even two. Dervin did a nice fling in Europe when he first got laid off, you might want to email him for ideas.....
Or how about a cross country trip here in the US? Plenty to see and do, depending on where you head, if you stick south you prolly won't get caught in snow driving anywhere.....
You could always go visit Liam in Ireland and do a 2 week UK tour....or buy a Eurail pass and just bop around Europe, plenty of B&B's to stay in.....

I recommend Anchorage Alaska for a winter trip. Nothing is as beautiful as Alaska in the wintertime. There are a billion things to do, if you like winter sports. (If you don't like winter sports, then sight-seeing is about all you can do.)
I also second Germany/Austria in December. It is a fabulous place! Exceptional food--holiday markets with their warm wine you can drink as you walk--too fun!

A co-worker here (see I'm asking everywhere) mentioned Alaska also, the only drawback in my trip to Calgary is for two weeks and I'll see the same things while hiking the mountains.
Genie seeing Liam was on my list if Europe the plan, and Devin did go to Prauge and that's on my wish list.
I want the trip to bwe a 10 day two week where you spend a few day in one city and travel by rail to the next.

You can see a lot of Europe pretty economically by train. I wouldn't try to cam in too many stops, however, or ot becomes less of a vacation. What about Spain/Italy?
Or Greece, with a cruise of the islands?

Yes 29 days of vacation.
Some folks thinks that's great for 10 or more yrs of service........
Not quite.
Most of the folks here have over 10 yrs of experience with me being the low man on the pole with 19 yrs.
Some we all are off at some point during the later part of the year, and my boss takes the last 3 weeks off every year so I'm stuck with the 1st two weeks of Dec.

Kristin I did make some calls looking at Italy, and have some flyers with prices.
