OK so next month I'll be 44 and I need to renew my DL. I'm 99.99% sure I won't pass the eye test. Time to get am eye exam and get something done so I can see the other cars on the road I guess. Razz What are the pros n cons of glasses/contacts? I'm concerned with my workouts in which I sweat like a pig, rub my eyes etc. When I have on glasses it draws attention to my crooked nose. Embarassed Neutral And I can't imagine ME putting stuff in n outta my eye without hurting myself or someone else. Shocked Some of my friends, yes I have friends Mad , say I should get both cuz I'll want my contacts out sometimes. I'm overwhelmed, help me!

Sorry babe...you and I are stuck with glasses...stylish glasses mind you...

I cannot put something in my eye...no matter how hard I try. Plus when I am contact fighting, no way they would stay in when I get hit in the head.. I just don't wear the glasses when training or running.

I hate having to wear them...but were gettin old... Sad

Get something retro or small wire frames..... Make sure to post a picture and get our approval before you buy em.. Razz

Cool

Ok here is my con to Ranger, I have worn contacts the past 5 yrs, other than the ocasional movement in the eye, and on a very rare instance a rip, I have only ripped 2, much ceaper than the glasses I have broken over the years.

I have no worries about sweat or rubbing them. I run in them, play hockey (hitting involved) and have had no problems, even drywalled my entire basement (sanding) and really never had a problem. Now sometimes its annoying taking them out at night or putting them in, in the morning but its just part of the daily routine now.

So in a nutshell thats my

I have been looking into lasik though, sometime in the future.

Recommendation: Glasses. I can't deal with the thought of shoving my fingers in my eyes (with apolgies to Moe Howard).

Suggestion: Get a big-city phone book. Then you'll be able to see over the steering wheel. Mr. Green

You'll want both. The doctor's office should give you a trial pair of contacts to use. They won't give you the trial pair if you can't put them in and take them out of your eye at the office.

You can get stylish glasses to wear. If you're worried about them falling off you can get a sport band for while you work out, or just don't wear them while you work out.

I can see well enough without my glasses to workout without them. I wear them all the time at work and while driving. I only recently had to start wearing them to watch TV.

Having the restriction on your license is not all that bad. Just make sure you always wear them when you drive. OR, always have an extra pair in the glovebox so you don't get caught driving without them.

I have both. I only get glasses replaced every several years (like 5-10 Embarassed ) but my prescription doesn't change that much anymore.

Contacts are great for sports.

Uhmmm actually you are not really sticking your finger in your eye, the contact will catch your eye as your putting it in at form to the eyeball. So your not poking your eye Confused

I know. But I had to have an operation when I was less than a year old in order to save my sight. The less messing around I do with my eyes (read: getting physical things near them), the better.

I like contacts - for really insane long runs I get the eye doc to give me a pair of 'sample' 24 hour wear lenses. For daily use I wear the plain B&L Accuview.

I can open my eyes under water and not lose a contact 99% of the time.

I'm in pretty much the same boat as you. Here's what I've got lined up for myself:
Daily-wear soft contacts (get the handling tint so you can see them), disposable every month. I use these 90% of the time, and wear them running, biking, at the gym.
At least 2 good pairs of sunglasses - one dark, one light - to keep the sun and wind out of your eyes when you're running and biking.
A good strong pair of glasses for general use. Get them strong (Oakley's are really tough) to survive all the bumps and such. Don't be cheap on these.
Two pairs of swim goggles - one dark (to wear outside with contacts), and one clear with my prescription. I got lucky and found "indexed" goggles off-the-shelf for $25 that are very close to my prescription.

It seems like a lot, but what you want is flexibiility. You've got a lot on your plate, and you need eyewear to handle it all.
