I've got a Timex Ironman one that has worked well for me for the past 11 months. If I had to buy one over again though, I'd get one that had a lap memory feature and would tell me the % of time that I spent in my target heart rate zone.

A GPS watch would be nice too, but I'm holding out until the price drops significantly.

I have the Nike 15 lap one. I don't do much HR training when I run, but will probably use it more next year when I do some longer triathlons.
I've found that it goes blank every so often, which I'm hoping is just a transmitter bug and not something way more serious. Shocked

I am on my second and went the the cheapest I could find, $50 on sale. It works well just does not have any of the bells and whistles.

have one and love it
hate to train without it
spent 130.00 on it
and will likely spend more on my next one
very good tool to really gauge the training

Joe and I (and lil bro) have the Polar XT, we found that ours blanks out near high voltage electrical power lines, near train tracks, or near some business with high tech alarm systems. We know where most of the spots are so we expect it. Its not a bug just interference. So you are ok.

Recently bought a Timex triathlon hrm. Very pleased with it. Never realized before I was over training. Now I know, I've got to go all out for my hill repeats and track intervals, but really, REALLY slow it down when I do my easy runs and LSD.

Just got the Polar A5 for my Bday. Simple enough for what I want to do with it.

I have a Polar Accurex, which is an older model I've had for at least 6 years. It has laps, average HR, recovery, zones, two separate timing options for fartlecs. It could probably make my breakfast if I could figure out all the options.

I love it, but probably don't use it to it's full extent.

There's a couple really good books on training with a HR monitor, and some decent article online that describe a few good workouts. I'd suggest reading up on it to determine if it fits your training before spending the jack. For most runners, "listening" to your body is just as good.

I would like to know, if anyone has done regular training, and also hr monitor training, and if they have noticed a difference in there progress.

Good question Ed. I haven't done enough training with my HRM to be able to answer your question though. But I bet some of the boys here have and could.

I only wear my HRM on my recovery and long run days to keep me at a slower pace than I would normally push myself. I think it works well for me because then I'm not so worn out the next day for the hard runs.
