If I'm not wrong, I think that's over a couple of thousand bucks spent on race fees alone, not including shoes, gear, transportation, airfare, and accommodation costs...

The 50-states marathon club estimates most members spend between $20,000 and $40,000 to get that goal done (depends on tastes in lodging/meals, etc).
