Just curious...what do you consider wind? > 10 mph? >20 mph?
We get breezes off the ocean all the time, usually <10 mph. It is just enough to make the leaves sway a bit, or cool you off if you're running/cycling in to it. But when the Santa Ana winds blow, it's horrible. Those are usually around 30 mph with gusts up to 60 or 70 mph. Now THAT'S wind. And it sucks!

...I always check the flagpole outside to see which way the wind is so I can finish my run with it at my back.

Part of the explanation's got to be that there aren't any leaves on the trees in many areas, so no windbreak.

But it dies down at night, except in the winter, then it just howls.
Wind blows all the time in the summer down here. It's called Hurricane Season.
