I found this link on another board. I am dumbfounded that someone could think like this. I understand everyone has their own thoughts and ideas about religion and what your deity does and does not do but this is truly shocking.

I think it's absolutely the wrong place and the wrong time.

..but on the other hand, no one seems to blink when you exert your personal beliefs and protest because it has to do with "mother earth" or "freedom to choose" or "___pride" versus protesting because of religious beliefs, a person becomes the zealot scurge of society. Confused

saw it, and discussed it on another forum. disgusting. "why can't you just behave?" Think there's been any abuse in that family?

here's a milder quote from Fred Phelps (note that I did not use "reverend" because he's not worthy of the title) : "The Lord God Almighty killed [the people who died on 9/11], looked at them in the face, laughed and mocked at each one of them as he cast each one of them into hell".

You can protest all you want, just not at a funeral.

I am sure glad the Freedom Riders (or something like that) are providing cover for the families.

I agree with ya.

We'd have to define "funeral" and "protesting" though.

Is protesting the same as political stumping?.. pretty close really. Rosa Parks or Paul Wellstone had themes of protest IN those funerals. dunno

And is a funeral simply "laying to rest" the deceased? Can I call the death of a fetus a funeral? dunno

Hard questions, actually. Writing a "no protest at funerals" will probably get pushed to all limits of the envelope unfortunately.

what's her point? really.... she is a white supremacist masqerading as a Christian and shames the name of Christianity in my opinion.

excuse my ignorance, but what the hell is she saying her god is punishing us for? exactly what have we done wrong? why is he casting his wrath down upon us? for fighting in Iraq or for being gay/lesbian/jewish/catholic/any other diverse group goes here.

she is a scary nutjob. i am disgusted that there a children on that picket line.

in a way, i'm pissed that they even give her airtime, but on the other hand, the "disinfectant" analogy was pretty good.

When is the right time and the right place to say "God Hates Fags"?

I would blink if someone was promoting "____ pride" by posting signs that promoted hate and were intended to wound. I would blink at that at any time, much less when it is at a funeral. Fred Phelps and Co. are evil, evil people.

Just becuase they have the legal right, doesn't mean it is right.

I repeat, Fred Phelps is evil.

Would you be even remotely defending these people if it was anything but a Christian group that said "Thank God for Dead Soldiers"?

Is what they did morally right or it is ever morally right to say "God Hates Fags"?
