umm, I'll be participating in a protest rally at the state capitol tomorrow (tuesday) my first protest ever. Hopefully, you won't see me on the news as I'm put into the police wagon.

unfair treatment of RiffRaffers; there's a definite bias in favor of the East Side PA Posse
*there's a bill in subcomittee to amend the state constitution by enacting a marriage ban (one man, one woman) to be voted on Wed. PA already has the Defense of Marriage Act from 1996, thank you mr. Clinton. No need to rub salt in the wounds.*

Good luck. It's better to stand up for what you believe, if not, it's not worth believing in.

Just don't do something like the guy in this story who was jumping on cars... (the search for it is worth the reward!)

March Madness
Students face criminal, academic charges
by Erik Ernst
Assistant News Editor
Students taking to the streets this past week to celebrate a basketball victory resulted in a torn-down stop sign, police in riot gear and some students facing hefty academic and criminal charges.
According to university police reports, up to 1,000 students took to the street after the UW-Madison Badgers defeated Louisiana State University Thursday and Purdue Saturday.
The students shouted chants of “Go Badgers Go,” “(expletive) Purdue,” and “You can’t stop us” directed at the police, who had arrived in riot gear to block the group from moving away from campus.
Assistant Chancellor of Student Affairs Elliot Garb said the group was mostly there to celebrate a Badger victory with the exception of a “handful” of students who tried to entice the crowd into dangerous activities.
“This started out, and through the most part of the evening, was a happy crowd, celebrating and blowing off steam,” Garb said.
Garb said student leaders and the restraint of the Oshkosh Police Department helped Thursday night end without any injuries.
The crowd assembled on the corner of Algoma Boulevard and Elmwood Avenue both nights.
Thursday the crowd attempted to head south on Algoma toward downtown, but was cordoned off by Oshkosh police. The group then returned to its starting point, where a fire had been started of clothing that was taken off at the scene.
Both city and university police departments and university administration said they are using videotape and still photos from media and other viewers to identify people who were enticing the group.
University Police Lt. Mike Melland said there are “quite a few more” people being investigated.
Garb said some students identified as breaking laws and enticing the group toward dangerous behavior are being suspended from the university.
“Some of those people won’t be with us any longer,” Garb said. “At best they have put their higher education at risk.”
Garb said once you are suspended from one UW System school, you cannot attend any of them until the suspension is over.
According to university police reports, Samuel Henke, 19, climbed to the top of a telephone pole and pulled down his pants. Henke and David Kampfert, 19, who according to police reports admitted he was intoxicated and held his shirt while another person set it on fire, were cited for underage drinking and referred to the district attorney’s office for disorderly conduct.
One other student, Joel Koenig, 25, was arrested Thursday by university police on charges of disorderly conduct for jumping on cars, Melland said.
Oshkosh police made one arrest Thursday. Michael Kropiwka, 21, was arrested for disorderly conduct, Sgt. Tom Wilkinson said.
Wilkinson said Kropiwka was given three chances to leave before being arrested.
“I think he should have been arrested for stupidity,” Wilkinson said.
Melland said there were seven university police officers present on Thursday and six on Saturday.
Wilkinson said besides Oshkosh police officers on hand, state patrol officers also were present.
No arrests were made from the group Saturday that led police on a walk past Gruenhagen Conference Center toward the Wisconsin Street bridge before returning to their Algoma Boulevard starting point.
One student has already been suspended, Garb said.
Winnebago County Deputy District Attorney Thomas Gritton said Monday at the Oshkosh Student association meeting Thursday’s criminal behavior in the groups of students would have to be dealt with.
“When it turns from a celebration to criminal behavior,” Gritton said, “that needs to be dealt with.”
Garb said he is relieved no one was injured, and there was almost no property damage, but is disappointed because the event diminishes many accomplishments of the university.
“People around the state and nation are basing their reactions on the actions of a small group of students,” Garb said.
“Unfortunately, there has been, created through a tradition of students in the past and the events of last Thursday, an impression that stains all Oshkosh students,” Garb said.
OSA speaker of the Assembly Greg Belken said he was one of the first student leaders out to try and settle down the crowd.
Belken said he is upset at the way these events effect the university’s reputation.
“This is what makes the value of our education go down,” Belken said.
Junior Christine Clark said she hopes this won’t affect her chances of getting a teaching job after graduation.
“I’m here to get a degree,” Clark said. “I’d like to be able to say my campus has a good reputation.
The university has set a plan into action for this Saturday’s Badger game against Michigan State to provide a place for students to watch and celebrate the game, Garb said.
The game will be shown on a large screen in Albee Hall with free popcorn and soda provided, Garb said. After the game, the intersection of Algoma Boulevard and Elmwood Avenue will be blocked off from traffic so students can celebrate in the streets if they wish.
“If (students) want to whoop and holler, “ Garb said, “that’s fine.”
Garb said the university police and student leaders will be present at the celebration. |

In this coutry you have the right to "fight" (i.e. Petition for a redress of grievances) for what you believe in. Good luck - keep a low profile, have bail pre arranged...

Hope you have a better turn out than when Minnesota legislators came to Wobegon. On the defense of marriage side, we had dozens and dozens of people lining the street and on the other side, well, I kinda felt sorry for those two ladies trying to garner any support.
