Well I have always cut the boys hair myself with the clippers. Just a nice short buzz cut. Jake has been growing it out for several months saying he likes it longer, fine. He decided to let his friends Mother cut it yesterday, she has a shop in their home. So he comes home and his brother starts telling him he looks like a little Amish boy. He does.  I told him it looked fine of course, and he said he like it. That was last night. This morning I wake up to a note saying "Mom, if you are home in the morning can you please, please, please try to do something with my hair..... I HATE IT!!!" 
Unfortunately I had to be at the gym early and when they got up at 6 I got a call from him crying that he can't go to school like that. Do I let him stay home or make him go? He's 13. I wanted to say it's Halloween, dress Like an Amish boy and go to school. But I just couldn't do it. What would you do??

Make him go. He'll get over it.

I'm probably the only one who would let him stay home. I'm not 100% sure I would, but probably. You know how mean kids are. And him crying would really upset me and probably remind me of all the times I was teased, etc. as a kid.
I know, making him suck it up is probably not a bad idea, but there's so much he's gonna have to suck it up for eventually. The voice cracking, zits, breaking up with a girlfriend, being turned down for a date in front of the guys, etc.
I'd let him miss at least until I could take a lunch break, take him to get it cut or cut it myself, then take him to school. If that's even possible.
Poor kid!

Getting your hair cut shorter than you want is bad news. That's what they did to mine before the 'thon. I told them to leave the back as was - well over the collar. The rats gave it a business cut! I should have seen that as a sign of things to come.

I'm leaning toward letting him stay home. I get outta here at 9 and I can take him to get it fixed. His crying did upset me.

Most barbers have to worry about making your hair too short. Well, I don't mind either way. I like my sides to have some hair but if it gets too short, oh well, it grows back soon enough.
Your little guy needs to learn to "tough it out" for the day. I think he'll get a razzing in the beginning but it should calm down by end of the day. We need to remember, this is not a permanent condition.

Ummm... I'd keep him home. Actually I'd keep him home in the morning, fix his hair and send him at lunch.
But this is from a guy who's had MHT (Major Hair Trauma) as a kid.

My mom used to cut my hair also. If I'd of gotten to stay home every time I had a bad haircut day I'd of missed half the damn school year.
