When you go shopping, do you shop health consciously?

Do you buy light/fat free versions of products on a regular basis?

Do you buy leaner cuts of meats?

Fresh vegetables?

I try to shop/eat somewhat health consciously. I buy very little junk food. I do not buy light/fat free products as I find them mostly taste free also.

I'm much more conscious about food now than I used to be. We do buy a lot of lean meats, but esp. skinless/boneless chicken breasts. I can do so many different things with chicken.

Libby is a vegaholic, and even Jake will eat things like cukes & green peppers. I buy those two veggies by the dozens anymore. They don't last long. We're moving right down the street from the big farmer's market, so I am looking forward to shopping there and hopefully getting better deals (their ads on tv are way cheaper than China Mart, aka Walmart).

Since Jake isn't a big meat eater (he doesn't like any meat, really) we do a lot of eggs & cheeses. We drink skim milk (I have lost count at how many gallons we go through per week, but the older Jake gets, the more we go through) and use skim or partial skim-milk cheeses (including cottage, and also fat-free when we do sour cream).

We still buy not-so-good for us things, like Ben & Jerry's, pretzels, and popsicles. But for the most part, we are healthy eaters.

I buy almost no junk food. Just mostly fresh fruit and veggies, milk, pasta/grains/bread/cereal, lean meat. So, I then rationalize small doses of real butter, real sour cream, etc.

When I was trying to lose weight, yes, I bought a lot of the fat free/low fat stuff-within reason.

The only one who really gets junk food is Aire Jr. You shouldn't go through your yoot without some junkie goodness from time to time.

I buy very little junk food. I think the most junk food I have purchased in the past month has been a package of oatmeal cream pies. I typically don't care about fat content or whatever, but try to buy natural if available. I try to buy stuff with less sodium/salt, less preservatives, and less sugar added. I don't understand why everything has to be sweetened so much. I like things to taste as they're supposed to. Who cares if my grapefruit juice is a little tart, or if my strawberry jelly does not cause a sugar induced coma?

There are a million fresh produce stands around us (we're in farming country) and in the growing season we have the most unbelievable selection of fresh picked fruit and veggies. We eat a lot of whole grain cereal, both for breakfast and snacks, and there's always a big bowl of fruit salad made up in the fridge.

I usually follow the rule - "shop on the outside isles." That'll usually get me fruits/veggies/milk/eggs/etc. Oh...and sometimes, if I'm lucky it'll get me ice cream! Very Happy
