Von Willebrand's Disease (vWD) is not a disease at all, but the most common genetic disorder in the world (classic hemophilia is more well known due to its connection with the royal families of Europe). In fact, vWD is 100 times more common than classic hemophilia! It was discovered by a Finnish doctor in the 1920s, who named it after himself and called it a disease. Later, Dr. von Willebrand discovered in truth that the illness was linked to a missing blood factor, which assists with the clotting of blood. He named the factor after himself as well - von Willebrand's Factor (vWF). The disorder is not sex linked (autosomal), meaning that both men and women can have it, but some can be carriers only and not manifest any of the symptoms. VWD occurs when the body makes either inferior vWF or none at all. Other blood factors can be short-changed as well. Generally, vWD is divided into three types: Type I (mild), Type II (Medium) and Type III (severe). The lower the type, the less the symptoms will occur and the less strenuous they will be.

WOW!!!! Ranger, i am wishing all of you and his physician the best of luck, a stage III vWD is nothing to sneeze at. But with the support he's got he's in good hands.
i can just about see Alia's smile while holding him too.

Wassat's supposed to mean? You think I gushed and cooed and crap?
Oh no! I let his pop pop do the silly stuff. We just chatted about stuff..you know..like how hospitals smell like butt and that all he needs to do is give that right leg a good push and he'd be over on his belly like nuthin...
I'm a firm believer in the NO BABY TALK rule. Why make him learn how to talk twice?

Wow, at least they found something.....hopefully the meds will help. Poor little guy......
So what does that have to do with the seizures, or was that unrelated?

I'll answer this one...they aren't seizures. They're night terrors...according to the sleep specialists.
It only happens when he's sleeping or about to sleep. I watched him while he was in my lap. He never gets to REM sleep...he's all twitches and starts.

Now THAT makes more sense based on what Ranger was saying he does......I wonder if this is an early indicator of hyperactivity?

we had great success with using sign language with our youngest. it helps them communicate when they just don't have the verbal skills. then as their speech develops, the signs extinguish.

CHOP's hematology people are alright. We have dealt with several of them. They will take good care of the little guy.
Best of luck and prayers to the family.
