Powerful and intense are the best way to describe it. I said goodbye to a wide-eyed kid on Dec. 8th. On Mar. 5th I shook hands with someone totally different - a lean mean Marine with a sense of pride about his accomplishment that defies description. He worked damn hard to earn that one stripe on his shoulder.

286 out of a possible 300 on the fitness test. Scored 100 on the crunches and in the 90's on the pull-ups (he did 17) and 3 mile run (20:06). He missed expert marksman by one bullseye, the one thing he was actually upset about. He was his team's leader through the crucible and led them thru successfully despite one kid nearly having a nervous breakdown and crying throughout it and another team member having feet blistered so badly they carried him in some places.

I could go on and on but you get the picture. I am so incredibly proud of my son and all the other young men and women on that parade deck. I have earned a new respect the members of our Armed Forces.

I am sure he is looking forward to a little time off before heading off to Lejune for AIT, then out to his MOS school.

Great report Rob, I am sure you are proud

Didn't I mention something to that effect - that you'd said goodbye to your boy but after bootcamp was finished, he'd be a man? And all without the mosquitoes and heat!

Shocked Wow, I hope that his MOS has him behind a desk....or in the rear with the gear.

My husband swears the Marines were the best thing that happened to him. I hope your son feels the same way!

I believe its too Advanced Infantry Training School at Camp Lejune North Carolinga. http://www.lejeune.usmc.mil/soi/ That is where all male graduates of basic training go prior to going to their Military Occupational Specialty School
