The countdown's on to my first tri - 5 days to go!

So I went to the pool last night to get rid of butterflies and just keep on top of things. Had to go to a new pool, since my regular one is closed for maintenance.

Apparently at this pool, "Adult Lane Swim" means at least two of the following things at any one time:
    1. Discard all knowledge of lane etiquette.
    2. The middle of the lane can be used as a splash and play area.
    3. Regardless of your speed, just swim in any of the lanes.
    4. Normally there's two lanes here, but we got lazy and didn't put out the last rope.

I only swam about 1400m in 40min, but I'm dog tired. I had to sight consistantly so I didn't crawl over Lil Billy or Gramma Plunkett. None of my laps were straight until there were only 5 minutes left and I was essentially the last person in the pool.

But it was good practice. I've never tried to sight like that before, and now I'm feeling pretty comfortable with it.

But I don't think I'll swim there again.

Sounds like you made some progress then on sighting. From what I have read n heard so far that is key in open water swimming. I still am amazed that you have never done OW swimming. Did you say that you were gonna get to swim a bit in the actual place the event takes place before the race this weekend?

There is a lady in my town here that told me she'd train with me, she did her first tri in July. But she said she would only enter if it had a pool swim cuz she freeked out trying OW swimming in a small lake near by. Guess that ends that for a training partner.

I am so excited for you and I can't wait to read about it. Mr. Green Neutral

It's not all that bad, really. It's mainly about timing, and a small boost in the kick and pull. that will be come a challenge near the end, however....

You're right - I did say that. Should have practiced what I preached. Neutral
Unfortunately, miniCdn was working on some molars and was not very pleasant last weekend. Poor thing.

I'd say head out on your own, but that wouldn't be very safe (unless there's lifeguards there). I find that you can do a sighting drill in the pool, and it works rather well. Whenever your head is in the water, just close your eyes. Open them on recovery and when sighting. Other than that, the only thing you'd miss is having other people swimming around you.

That's awesome - thanks!

T-minus 3 days and counting! Weather's looking good, perhaps a bit cool. And I'm swimming the way God intended -- no wetsuit!

I'll be sure to give a RR and update my blog within a reasonable time.

Good practice but not fun if you have to do it on a regular basis.

Have a great race!
