I had no idea these things were going on in NJ. And people say we have colorful Governors in Louisiana.

That's a nice way of saying it.

Sometimes in life we make choices to please others or to make others happy or to "fit in" because that's how it should be. This happens to a lot of us in one way or another.

At least he was honest--and now that he's being honest with himself I think his life will begin to improve.

It's always hard to live a life that you've built to make others happy.

I wish him nothing but the best.

Regardless of the choices we all make, we should be held acccoutable for the consequences that entail. Furthermore, is it really all about him? I guess its tough cookies for his wife and two kids?

Sorry? No doubt it has some to do with his wife and kids. Goodness, you aren't suggesting he has no remorse or feels guilt? I obviously do not know the man but stepping aside seems to indicate he is holding HIMSELF accountable for his actions. dunno

Edit: Just now watching Hardball and Chris Matthews is sitting with, as usual, Pat Buchanan. Buchanan, in true form, is more concerned with the fact that he "gave into" his desires as a homosexual man. The bigger violation is that he is a homosexual, rather than that he cheated on his wife.

Additional edit: Just viewed his entire speech. Weird. Just...weird.

I hate politics for making very private issues in a family very public.

I"m sorry they have to see this play out in the newsmedia.

I wish them the best of luck.

how would you make him accountable??? Stay married? He is finally being true to himself and his family. If our society would accept homosexuality he probably would have made different choices much sooner.

No, I think an affair is a horrendous thing and very difficult to forgive. My guess, though, is the marriage was only a marriage in name for a very long time. Although the wife is hurt, she may have had her doubts a long time ago. Also, I am betting that she will be much happier now, too. After the hurting, the healing will begin. I think she deserves a shot at another marriage with a man who is committed to her.

do you know for a fact that it is 'tough cookies" for his wife and kids? has he walked away from them, never to have contact with them again, never to support them, never to be there when they need help? is that the fact you were stating? or were you stating that gay and lesbian people have been historically forced to live a life of secrecy for fear of discrimination and violence, and that knowing that, the NJ Governor should have decided long before this whether he would live his life as a gay man, or try to fit into society's role for him and sublimate his true nature? which fact are you stating with your comment?

I think having him resign is pretty accountable. He admitted it, let's move on.

He was a pretty unpopular governor anyway. He had some pretty bad ideas regarding taxes and the like.
