Been praying for you girlie.....you'd do well to let the doc know about the painkillers too....opiate detox is a beeyotch but fortunately once you get through the first couple days it gets easier. I've seen this many, many times. I know there are other things they can give you for pain, but try not to get morphine if you can, after the surgery....it'll just make it harder to get off them.

Well, the good news is, it's NOT a dangerous blood clot, it's a minor thrombosis that poses no danger as far as travelling to a major oprgan. The orthaepedist said they botched the IV and it can be removed but he doesn't do that anymore.
He was packed as hell; I didn't get seen until 4:10 or a 1:30 appointment and we just got back about an hour or so ago and I had to stuff myself with chili rellenos...I like the dr. He was thorough, and direct, and there was an article and letter on his wall from a 62 year old Ironwoman who finished the last 8 miles of the Hawaii Ironman on a broken ankle. He fixed it, and she went on to finish at age 62 in under 16 hours! She sent a letter thanking him, and there was a newspaper article about her where she mentioned him. I was impressed by that. One thing I didn't like was that he yelled at his office manager in front of us for making us wait so long since we had to drive back. I don't believe in public reprimands, but I appreciated his directness and thoroughness with me. He did all new X-rays. I felt bad for the guy in a way also, because he was with me for about 45 minutes, and his waiting room was still full when we left and nearly 5.
I have severe arthritic gout. It's a mystery considering that I am 1) fairly young 2) in good shape 3) eat very healthily, and nearly NOTHING that is on the list for triggers, other than some shellfish, some red wine (but not much of that since the reds give me migraines unless they are organic) and an occasional steak. I don't eat really rich food.
He will not do any surgery until we get the arthitic gout under control. I'm off for blood tests, rheumatologist, and pain management within the month (S/B fun, since I just started a new job...but they're nice, so we will see) to determine how the hell I got this, what's causing it and how to control it. If it doesn't get under control its going to destroy my foot joints. The other bump on my left foot is going to need an MRI. The arm thing is not dangerous though, thank god, and it can be lanced. The pain management people will deal with the physical dependence and more effective medication, eventual detox, and alternative strategies . The arthritis has to get under control before he would consider either bunion or great toe replacement. If it keep ups like it is now, I'll need oth (to reshape feet and replace the disintegrated joint).
Thanks again. I'm exhausted, and in pain (having someone yank and pull at already pain ful feet is not nice, but it had to be done, and he was as gentle as possible.) I need to iron some clothes and sleep. Have a great night, and thanks for caring and your support.

Exactly, all exactly what I wanted you to say. A) That it wasn't a dangerous clot B) that this guy has his act together C) That you're going to see a palliative specialist and D) that he's going to be aggressive with the cause of your pain (and gout is very painful)
good good good.
I hope the gout gets under control soon so you can move forward with everything, but I like the direction you're headed in....

You're going to be a damned good nurse once you quit those damn cancer sticks...please don't get rid of the avatar, I giggle every time I see it. It's like something from the 1950's. "Have a smoke, and you'll stay slim and trim in your white uniform..." (Sorry that was in bad taste, but I could see that being a commercial for RJR Reynolds back in the day).
I'm just kind of relieved. I'm glad Larry went with me though. There's no way I could have driven back in rush hour on the turnpike after that. PLus, he had some good ideas for other questions along with yours while we were waiting since he just went through the hip replacement for his arthritis. I had a 1 1/2 page list.
Thanks again!!

HOLY SH!T Kristin, sorry but i've not been on the board like i used too.
I'm so sorry about the situation you WERE in. I had no idea just how bad it really was. i AM glad you got to see this Doctor and that he seems to have his stuff together.
I agree with you on the state of US healthcare, it's appalling that one of the worlds leading countries should be reacting instead of pro-acting on healthcare. people here still go along the addage of "if it aint broke......" then heave to spend an exhorborant amount of money. Pharmacies spend millions on advertising budgets to promote a medicine and Indocin has been around forever it seems for it to still have a high price tag.
Kristin, be rest assured you are in many thoughts.
