I didn't get the job I interviewed for in December - top five went on to 2nd interviews, and I was 8th overall. I chalked it up to experience, and went back to filling out applications.

Monday, my phone rang as I was eating lunch, and I didn't recognize the number, but I answered it anyway.

It was the city HR dept., asking if I'd consider a part-time position.

I have to go to the cop shop at 9:30 today and interview with two of the captains. It'd mean 10 hour shifts every Saturday & Sunday, so my schedule would be radically changed (no races for the forseeable future Sad ).

But it'd be a foot in the door, and I figure that's a good thing.

I've been all week about this - pardon me while I go find some Pepto-Bismol...

Update: I think it went pretty well. It seemed a lot more relaxed and less structured than the first interview, and I was allowed to ask questions about the position and the department, which I couldn't before.

It turns out there's a part-time and a full-time position open, and they're going to the council in June to get the part-time slot upgraded to full-time, as the city's growing like mad. Depending on the division I got assigned to, the job could involve anything from processing crime scenes to working identity theft cases - everything short of making arrests.

Oh, and paperwork - lots and lots of paperwork. Wink

No - the job is Community Services Officer (uniformed, no powers of arrest). Doing crime reports, traffic control, etc.
