the players
who would you take in this bet - Tiger Woods or the field????
you'd be stupid not to take the field just because of the (at least in theory) odds involved, but augusta is just a very Tiger-friendly course. If this were any other major, where the course changes every year, i'd be much more inclined to write off Tiger to repeat - but when it's the same course over and over... of course he doesn't win every tournament every year, but he has taken long runs in some tournaments (won the Buick Invitational four years in a row, if i'm not mistaken?), so why not this one? It's a better field, but that doesn't make him not the best golfer in the world,no?
regardless - at the end of the day - i'm pulling for western PA native Rocco Mediate. Who do you got?

I know. Let's take Tiger out entirely. Makes it much more interesting.
I'll take the two turds, just cause:
Davis Love III
Charles Howell III

When we have female governors, senators, and supreme court justices, how does augusta national's private policy amount to discrimination?
why is martha burke so convinced that augusta national stands between her and absolute equality?
What is it about this golf club that prohibits martha from feeling good about herself?

And how many male students are there are that wimmins college you work for? Seems a little hypocritical to me. Streets need to run both ways.

Exactly.
It's a private course. They can set any policy they want.
There are plenty of situations where men are discriminated against as well.

Yeah, poor fellows. Don't have to wear high heels or bras. Or go through childbirth or mammograms. Sigh. I know how much these things mean to them... The discrimination against them is just awful!!
just kidding--there are plenty of situations for reals where guys face discrimination. I happen to agree with SC and OL on this one. It is not a public institution paid for by tax dollars. It is privately owned and operated.
If they don't want to allow women, that is their right. If some people feel the need to boycott the advertisers, that is their right.
Like Greg said, the street needs to run both ways.

First of all, let me make clear that men actually do go to Bryn Mawr for graduate degrees, and that Haverford College, a co-ed facility with which Bryn Mawr has a close association, routinely sends men to undergraduate classes here. (Little tip: It's better to know what you're speaking about before you get into it.)
Secondly, as I said, I only mentioned Martha Burke to make the point that anything can be politicized. Frankly, I don't much care one way or the other. If Augusta, a private club, wants to stay all-male, they have a perfect right to do so.
Thirdly, how in the heck would I know what Martha Burke is thinking?
