Posted: 10/02/03 - 18:06 Post subject: Getting sick after great runs
A couple of weeks ago I had a great long run of 6 miles for the 1st time ( I ran/walked but definatley ran alot)
Bronchitis set in next day.
2 weeks later I had another really great run and ran 3 miles without walking for the first time. I felt great. That afternoon my sinus felt full of water and now I am sick with a head cold. Sinuses are stopped up, sore throat, tired and weak.
Coincidence? Anyone have experience with this?
TIA

your immune system is lowered after running. Try some vitamin C supplements or more orange juice. Rough time of year also

Are you doing those runs outside in the heat? If you're not used to it, a long run in the heat can really wipe you out.

I haven't been doing any of my runs in the heat yet. I went out one time and could only get 3.5 miles in.
I had a lot of problems when I traveled to FL and the heat there this past summer. My allergies and sinuses really gave me a rough time. I was pretty sick after each run.
I'm waiting for the "cool down" here to run outside.
What time are you going out?

I try to run in the mornings because I will bypass a run at night so I am usually out by 4:40 am and on saturdays by 6am.
This is the 2nd time in 3 weeks I have been sick.
What time are you going out? |

I agree with the copper. I take Endorox after my hard runs to help replenish my body. Endurox is full of antioxidants (Both C and E) and carbohydrates to help your body recover.
A good source of information on this is in the book, Endurance Sports Nutrition It is an excellent book.
Good luck! Paul
