yeah I remember calling dibs on being lineleader in the first grade, dibs on the last cookie, dibs on getting to play mom first when playing house...
then there was the whole college years where we seemed to travel in packs of 13 all in one car, so shotgun dibs were crucial, but there were careful rules of who could call it and when and hwat was overruled....
dibs is way old and widely used.

I didn't think "dibs" was phraseology, I thought it was just english.
