I'm in a pretty good mood this morning. As long as no one starts calling names or pulling hair, I'm OK with this.

Did not see it but I saw him speak on Sunday when he addressed the nation. He does not have an easy job and at least makes decisions. He has excellent people around him.
The one thing I do not like is all of the spending they are doing. But with a stronger economy from the TAX CUTS everyone there will likely be more revenue coming in.
No doubt short of anything major happening he will be reelected. Even though the 9 people running against him really spend more time fighting each other. I believe in tough times people do not want change. Just like FDR He spent like mad but people believed in him as a leader.
That is why people will support Bush.

I also feel that people like the "human" side of the man.
When Sawyer was talking to him and his wife, he'd say little things about his wife, little jokes, and then go into that little giggle that many people don't like about him.
It makes him more human, in my opinion. As we were watching it, my wife commented that Clinton would have never, ever giggled like that on camera. Ya know what I mean? I'm not bashing Clinton here, either.
Just little things like that, mispronouncing words, stumbling, although it drives some people nuts, makes him seem more human and real. And a person that more people can relate to.
Does this make any sense at all?

coach it makes a lot of sense. People who call him stupid just have nothing else to say. It takes a weak person to call someone a name.
He goes to a ranch and clears brush on vacation. He gives a shirt to anyone who can keep up with him running in a Texas summer 3 mile run (he does it in like 20 minutes).
Guys we have met on the secret service said both he and his father were very personable with their details and would often sit and talk with and get to know them.
I never asked him to be perfect. He can make mistakes. He is human after all.

It does make sense, coach. He is definitely he most personally approachable president since Carter. But po-po, remember he did his undergrad at Yale, and graduate at Harvard, so much of his vocabulary foibles are received as . Many of those who critique his intelligence come from the exclusive educational circle of his peers.

My dad has a BS in Civil Eng, a Masters in Mech Eng and an MBA. He's a member of MENSA and has an IQ in the genius range. He also butchers the english language on a daily basis and is a horrendous speller. One's lack of perfectly polished speaking skills is not a barometer for judging their intelligence.

It is when one's career has persuasive public speaking as critical component, like politics. I've met many a brilliant engineer/software designer/physicist who can't speak well verbally, but that isn't often a factor in their success. But I also know some very smart lawyers and consultants who aren't as successful because they can't speak well.

OVER THE TOP?!? Maybe if Clinton's war on terror had been "over the top" we wouldn't have OVER 3000 DEAD AMERICANS!! Your remark was disgusting. To imply that this man, who is trying to keep something like this from happening again, is using this fight to "mask other less successful initiatives" is deplorable!
Planes
265 people killed on four planes; 232 passengers, 25 flight attendants, 8 pilots. (Note that this total includes the 19 hijackers, who reportedly boarded the planes as passengers.)
American Airlines flight 11 BOS-LAX (north tower of World Trade Center): 93 people: 82 passengers (including 5 hijackers), 9 flight attendants, 2 pilots
United Airlines flight 175 BOS-LAX (south tower of World Trade Center): 65 people: 56 passengers (including 5 hijackers), 7 flight attendants, 2 pilots
American Airlines flight 77 IAD-LAX (The Pentagon): 64 people: 58 passengers (including 5 hijackers), 4 flight attendants, 2 pilots
United Airlines flight 93 EWR-SFO (Pittsburgh): 44 people: 37 passengers (including 4 hijackers), 5 flight attendants, 2 pilots

World Trade Center
By October 29, 2003, 2605 people were listed as confirmed dead and 1058 bodies had been identified. (Note: this total does not include the 127 passengers and 20 crew on the two aircraft or the 10 hijackers).
Missing Persons
As of August 2002, there were approximately 90 people who were officially missing; that is, their remains had not been identified and no family members had requested a death certificate.
Pentagon
The Pentagon reports 125 staffers killed or missing, with 121 remains recovered and identified, as of Sept. 11, 2002. At least one person died later as a result of wounds incurred.

I gotta laugh at how people can give the President credit or blame so easily. I guess we can send all 535 members of Congress right back on home, since the President runs the show.
I think it's pretty obvious that government doesn't drive the economy. It was a Republican controlled Congress in the late 90's as it is now, so don't give any politician the blame or credit.
It's you and me that make or break the financial back of this country. And when you buy your Japanese car or your French watch or yet another Made In China trinket, that's where I believe we're losing the wheels.

RT: If someone wants to commit an act of terrorism badly enough, there's not a lot that can be done to prevent it. One big lesson we can learn from the Middle East. If you remove one method, another will be ingeniously implemented. One big lesson we can learn from the WTC tragedy. I personally knew 86 victims of the WTC tragedy, and am still deeply affected by it. As such I will ignore your flippant insinuation that my comments undermine its importance or significance.
I do contend that Bush has used the war on terror as a shield for other less successful initiatives. In doing so he's taken the national focus from itself to the "evil" world at large. Homeland Security has done nothing, and will continue to do nothing. Though I like that frenzy-stirring color alert system.

jrjo: hey look! something we agree on! Ditto to all. But you gotta admit, the figurehead of our government often gets all the blame or the glory, much like a coach for a sports team.
