I was in a large retail outlet last night letting my daughters do their Valentine's Day shopping and "Rock Around the Clock" came on the PA system.

I was just standing there patiently and tapping my foot to the music when this older gentlemen (also obviously bored) came up to me and said "Bill Haley and the Comets" gave me the thumbs up sign and walked on.

In my head, I'm thinking, "No, that's the theme song to Happy Days."

I guess that just a good indicator of the generation gap.

Bill Haley originally recorded that song in 1954.

Happy Days didn't come on the air until 20 years later in 1974! Shocked

You mean, I was born the year Happy Days came out? So, those are reruns?

Edited to say: Rock Around the Clock and the Theme Song to Happy Days are not the same song. Even I in my youth know that.

ABC did not think "Happy Days" would last beyond the first season and so they used "Rock Around the Clock" as the theme during the first season. When it became a hit, ABC paid someone to right the "Happy Days" theme song.

I was 11 yo in 1974. I don't think I'm old. But I use that bit of trivia, which I just learned about 5 years ago, when I teach one of the 6th grade lessons. It uses the Rock Around the Clock song and the kids recognize it from the re-runs. If you see Happy Days with the Rock around the Clock theme, it is from the first season!
