Posted: 10/08/07 - 18:05 Post subject: General Response
In response to reading generally over all posts, I am a medical provider, but DO NOT WRITE THIS POSTING AS MEDICAL ADVICE. I write this posting as a layperson with piriformis syndrome. I have found multiple persons on the web whom have had successful surgery with Dr. Filler, including myself. I failed all other treatments including aggressive therapy and was on the way to permanent damage. The cost of the surgery is not at all horrible considering the alternative and his office works with your insurance- they also help with travel arrangements and try to get you home as soon as possible.
For people who wait greater than 3 years to have nerve/nerves released, the longer and more difficult the recovery. So as a piriformis patient, I would not advocate long term therapy. Once you have the diagnosis, find an experienced surgeon, exhaust alternatives, then pursue surgery if necessary. I am more than happy to answer questions about my experence. I am still undergoing my recovery, but consider myself lucky to have been diagnosed and have found Dr. Filler.
