I remember a beautiful story from either Greek or Roman mythology that went something like;

Once, everyone was joined at the hip with another. People weren't single identities, they were a couple. Some were a women and a man, some were a women and a women, some were a man and a man. Everyone was deliriously happy, so much so that the gods were angered at all of this joy among simple humans. The deities conspired to separate all of the humans. Ever since that event took place, people have wandered the world over, searching for their other half.

Kristin, have you been watching Hedwig and the Angry Inch? fubby

Well, the thing is, if you want to take the Bible verbatim as the word of god you have to realize it's not that. It' been edited by men. For a time. Take their individual perspectives in view before thinking it's come down from some deity, real, or imagined.

No, I've never seen the show; that story was honestly from some mythology class WAY back at U of M.

I think RunnerX makes sense as well. Listening to friends via phone rant about what they can and cannot do adds to the flame.

I'm not arguing at all with Kristin's post, but it has been one of my biggest dilemas as a Christian. I truly believe the Bible is the inspired word of God, as Pug said. I'm torn between the idea that people could have let interpretted it influenced by their prespectives and the thought that God definitely had the power to chose and influence who was editing his book.

Overall, Pug had the best point IMHO, the greatest commandment is to love one another as Jesus loved us. I have enough of my own various sins to worry about.

I just can't understand how loving someone else could be wrong, even though I can see in Scripture that it is. Good thing I'm not called upon to be perfect!

I'm not saying abusing the system is right (or that I condone it), but if you are banning gay marriage because they might abuse the system...then we need to ban all marriages.

Because you prevent those who are committed to each other, and not interested in abusing the system from enjoying those benefits. You could look at your argument and turn it around: All marriages should be banned because some heteros abuse the system. we should correct the problems of people abusing it....not say "we can't let those people do it too"

Since this has gotten to the point of somebody whispering something at the back of a classroom and seeing how different it is by the time it gets to the front.....this is what I originally wrote..

My serious opinion (finally I do actually have one)

I could care less if two people of the same sex want to be together, that is their choice by their free will......
the impact comes in the areas of how they should then be treated in aspects pertaining to benefits (corporate as well as governmental) et al.....
does a bigamist then get the same type of "benefits" (some believe bigamy is fine), do we then bleed into other beliefs--where does it stop...

what if some just use it as a scam to gain these benefits......

saying that you don't agree with homosexual marriage for any reason, does not mean you are bigoted or want to see gays executed or sent off to exile.......now as for killing or exiling Oklahomans--that is just GREAT.... Razz Razz Razz

Somebody else made the point that right now the system is abused.....
I made a point about MY thoughts on where the can of worms gets opened...and that all Oklahomans should be executed

I also don't think anybody has watched Red Dawn Confused

My point too. I certainly wasn't OK'ing their abusing the system, but one of the arguments on the conservative side is that they are just trying to get benefits they are otherwise not entitled to (DESPITE the fact that many companies across the country, including where I work, have adopted the domestic partner policy and do give bene's to same sex partners--I forget exactly what the criteria is, but....) so I was merely countering that by pointing out that homosexual couples are not the only people who are willing or capable of abusing the system so preemptive discrimination of them is ridiculous.
